API’s Lynn Granger named as new president and CEO of Colorado Oil and Gas Association

By Scott Weiser | Denver Gazette Lynn Granger, the Colorado regional director of the American Petroleum Institute, will become President and CEO of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association. Granger will officially start in January and replace departing President and CEO Dan Haley. Granger spent more than two decades working in energy policy and strategic communications leadership, including five years in the U.S. Army. By Vince Bzdek | The Gazette There is a book I read to my kids when they were about 4 years old called “The Mixed Up Chameleon.” One day the chameleon discovers it can change not only its color but its shape and size, too. When it sees different animals in the zoo, it immediately wants to be like them. And it ends up being “a little of this, a little of that,” part polar bear, part flamingo, fox, fish, deer, giraffe, turtle, elephant and seal. President-elect Trump’s choices for his Cabinet so far reminded me of that book, and created a similar mashup in my mind. Call it his Frankestaff, a Cabinet sewn together from ill-matched bits. By Debbie Kelley | The Gazette As Dec. 1 approaches and the Rockrimmon Library gasps its last breath, the Pikes Peak Library District’s Chief Librarian and CEO Teona Shainidze-Krebs said she feels the community’s pain over the decision to shutter the beloved space. “We know people have passion and love for their libraries, and so do we, the staff and the board of trustees,” she said Tuesday. “I understand the concerns — this is something very hard.” Working off a new master facilities plan that recommended closing some of the 15 branches, the board voted 5-2 at its Oct. 16 meeting not to renew the lease of the storefront library at 832 Village Center Drive, which opened in 1989 in northwestern Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs e-bike policy gains narrow vote of approval

By Seth Boster | The Gazette Colorado Springs' Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Advisory Board on Thursday narrowly approved a policy to expand electric bike access on city trails. This was after a separate committee overseeing the city's parks and open spaces rejected the proposal ahead of final City Council consideration. The prior rejection by the TOPS Working Committee took issue with an update to city code that would define Class 1 and 2 e-bikes, powered by an electric motor, as "non-motorized use." Jim Akin carried an estimated 10,000 paratroopers as a pilot, and when he skydived at 99 years old over the summer it was in their honor. “I thought, ‘Boy, I hope I got the guts to do it,’” he said. His girlfriend, an occasional marijuana user, recommended he try pot as a way “to chill out.” “You know I’m not like a pot smoker.
