Civic and businesses leaders announced Tuesday that new organizers have come forward to ensure a parade will take place next month after last week’s news of the cancellation of the original parade triggered an outpouring of support for the event. School board leaders in Southern Colorado campaign against local marijuana measures

By Eric Young | The Gazette Elected officials from across the Colorado Springs region are lending their voices to a campaign opposing recreational marijuana sales in the city.  On Sunday, an unknown number of El Paso County voters received a mass text message from Colorado Springs School District 11 Board President Parth Melpakam calling for their vote on a pair of recreational marijuana measures.  The message was accompanied by a video featuring Melpakam, Academy District 20 Board President Aaron Salt and School District 49 Board President Lori Thompson. Only two states report a larger share of interstate highways in poorer condition than Colorado. Less-traveled highways in our state are even worse. Patrol deputies responded to the call at the 600 block of Hathaway Drive in the Cimarron Hills neighborhood of unincorporated El Paso County and made contact with the reporting party, according to a news release sent out Thursday. Ute Mountain Ute Tribe joins sports betting lawsuit against Colorado

By Eric Young | The Gazette Another Colorado tribe has joined a lawsuit against the state over access to online sports gambling.  An amended complaint filed Thursday with the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado added the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe to a lawsuit filed earlier this year against the state by the Southern Ute Tribe. The complaint alleges that both tribes have been "unfairly" denied by the Colorado Department of Revenue from engaging in online sports betting after the passage of Proposition DD in 2019, which legalized it in the state. By MARY SHINN | The Gazette As the war in Ukraine kills and injures tens of thousands, European countries are getting more serious about medical training and ensuring the care is standardized across NATO nations. In a large-scale ground war in Eastern Europe, casualties could be, for example, transferred from a Danish Stryker ambulance to a Hungarian ambulance and then to a Lithuanian and Spanish joint field hospital, as they were in a recent European exercise. So, it’s key the medical standards are the same as patients are transferred, said Maj. By Breeanna Jent | The Gazette A final vote from the Colorado Springs City Council on Tuesday strongly limits where marijuana shops that want to sell recreational marijuana can operate, a move a resident-backed marijuana campaign described as a "backdoor ban" on retail cannabis sales locally. The council voted 7-2 a second time to preemptively prohibit facilities that sell recreational marijuana from operating within 1 mile of K-12 schools and residential child care and drug or alcohol treatment facilities.
