The event was held in the name of "Preventing and Addressing Conflict-Related Sexual Violence." "Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton," a protester shouted out as soon as she took the podium. ‘Uncle Ted’ claims Biden administration is ‘violating’ Constitution by targeting gun purchases

By Jenny Goldsberry | Colorado Springs Gazette Musician and National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent expressed concern over allegations that the Treasury Department is flagging gun purchases as signs of extremism. Nugent appeared on Fox News's America's Newsroom on Friday to respond to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen avoiding questions on the allegations, which came from the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. According to the subcommittee, financial institutions were asked to flag transactions that used terms such as “MAGA” or “TRUMP,” in addition to purchases of a gun or a Bible and even general purchases at stores such as Cabela’s or Dick’s Sporting Goods. Host Dana Perino asked Nugent how gun owner...

Sen. Tim Scott dodges VP questions: ‘Shouldn’t make this about me’

By Eden Villalovas | The Gazette Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) danced around questions about potentially becoming former President Donald Trump's running mate as speculation arises about his 2024 ticket, saying the focus shouldn’t be on him or another possible candidate for vice president. “My answer would be yes to America having four more years of Donald Trump. I don't think any one of us should make this about me or any other person who might be the candidate for vice president,” Scott told Fox News’s Sean Hannity on Tuesday.  Trump was not on Nevada’s primary ballot, which former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley lost on Tuesday to “none of these candidates.” Haley’s stinging defeat without Trump on the ballot further cements his status...

Ken Buck, three other Republicans thwart effort to impeach Homeland Security Sec. Mayorkas

By Anna Giaritelli  | The Gazette House Republicans failed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in a contentious vote Tuesday that will temporarily spare the Cabinet official from facing removal proceedings. Lawmakers voted by a narrow margin of 214-216 to reject the articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, who was confirmed by the Senate in February 2023 to lead the department’s 260,000 employees. GOP Reps. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Blake Moore (R-UT), and Ken Buck (R-CO) were the only members to break with the party and vote in defense of Mayorkas. All Democrats voted against the impeachment articles. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE GAZETTE

Biden team worried about next big embarrassment to hit president

By Haisten Willis | Colorado Springs Gazette The Biden campaign fears that the results of a classified documents investigation could lead to embarrassing information, and possibly photos, that could damage President Joe Biden's reelection chances. Biden's aides believe special counsel Robert Hur's investigation won't lead to any criminal charges, according to Axios, but unflattering details and photos could still lead to political damage. Former President Donald Trump is facing felony charges related to his handling of classified documents. Soon after his Mar-a-Lago home was raided in August 2022, Biden weighed in by asking aloud how "anyone could be that irresponsible." READ THE FULL STORY AT THE COLORADO SPRINGS GAZETTE

Speaker: ‘The President has executive authority right now’ to act on border crisis

By Jack Birle | Colorado Springs Gazette House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) placed blame for the border crisis on President Joe Biden, insisting the president should act on solving the crisis as Senate negotiators are slated to release the text of their proposed border security bill on Sunday. Johnson put the ball in Biden's court to act on the border, arguing he has the authority to enact measures the House GOP has pursued through its H.R. 2 bill, which has not been considered by the Senate while speaking on NBC News's Meet the Press on Sunday. "I have been saying what the requirements are to fix the problem. I don't care if they call the legislation HR 2 or not. What we're saying is you have to stem the flow. The President has executive authority right no...

Haley takes the gloves off with Trump, but is it ‘too little, too late’?

By Christian Datoc | Colorado Springs Gazette COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA — Nikki Haley has a message for former President Donald Trump: "I'm not going anywhere." Haley, Trump's ambassador to the United Nations and the sole candidate standing in his way to a third straight Republican presidential nomination, is in the midst of a monthlong, all-or-nothing effort to win the primary in her home state of South Carolina. And she's finally taking pointed shots at Trump's age, character, and overall fitness for office along the way. Haley spent the early months of her campaign focusing attacks on Trump for ballooning the national debt while in office. However, since coming in second place in New Hampshire, she has pulled a page out of President Joe Biden's own playb...
