ACLU claims Aurora police may have ‘exceeded their authority’ in working with ICE

By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado is speaking out about the ongoing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement action in Aurora that led to 16 people detained in December. ICE was involved with the investigation of an armed apartment invasion on Dec. 16 and 17 at The Edge at Lowry apartment complex in Aurora where 19 people were initially detained, but ultimately 16 were arrested. Aurora police said the incident began when two Venezuelan individuals were accosted by a large group of armed individuals and forced into an apartment unit. By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News At the same time that the ACLU of Colorado is investigating the Aurora Police Department’s cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Aurora’s mayor is asking Denver’s mayor for clarity on how and why the migrant population spread to Aurora. Specifically, Mayor Mike Coffman wants to know why the ongoing Tren de Aragua gang activity has been largely tied to Aurora when busloads of migrants were sent to Denver from Texas last year. Denver reported over 42,000 migrants, mainly from Central and South America, were sheltered by the city between Jan. 2023 and July 2024. Pete Marczyk opened the first Marczyk Fine Foods in 2002, now with two locations here in Denver. Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado Matthew Kirsch is resigning from the federal office effective Jan. 25. Kirsch has been tapped by former U.S. Attorney John Walsh, who was elected to be Denver’s next District Attorney, to be the First Assistant District Attorney in Denver. Kirsch took over as Colorado’s chief federal law enforcement officer in June after then-U.S. Attorney Cole Finegan submitted his resignation in May. Wolf killed in Grand County was shot; federal officials seeking information

By Jacob Factor | Fox 31 News Federal officials are seeking information in the illegal deadly shooting of one of the reintroduced gray wolves that died in Grand County in 2024. The wolf, one of three that died in 2024, was the adult male wolf of the Copper Creek pack Colorado Parks and Wildlife captured in 2024 that repeatedly attacked livestock, prompting the whole pack’s capture. The male wolf died less than a week after his capture, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said at the time. Parks and Wildlife staff found the wolf already in poor condition, with several injuries to his right hind leg and a body weight nearly 30 percent lower than when he was released. Jared Polis, as directed by President Joe Biden, ordered all American and Colorado flags to fly half-staff from the start of former President Jimmy Carter’s passing on Sunday. According to a proclamation signed by then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, because Carter was a former president, flags are to remain at half-staff for 30 days from the day of Carter’s death. Louisville, Superior and unincorporated Boulder County have collectively reported that 712 of those homes have been rebuilt. Heading into the holidays, the chances of seeing a white Christmas were unlikely. Denver was warmer than some cities in Texas and California on Christmas Eve, and while there were storms by Christmas day, the city was only left with rain.
