Parker mayor, City Council forum featuring up to nine candidates is Thursday at Deep Space Lounge

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Candidates for mayor and City Council seats in Parker will appear in a forum hosted by the Downtown Business Alliance at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Deep Space Lounge, an email received by the Rocky Mountain Voice indicates. The forum begins with the at-large election for city council, followed by the mayor's race. The forum is open to the public, with guests invited to begin arriving at 6 p.m. There is no cost for admission, but guests must cover their food and drink expense. Jeff Toborg and Joshua Rivero are vying for mayor. Toborg presently serves as mayor, and Rivero is a present member of City Council. ‘Just disgusting’: Coloradan describes flooded toilets, litter on Guanella Pass

By Maddie Rhodes | Fox 31 News For 25 years, a local woman has taken U.S. 285 to Guanella Pass to see the fall leaves, but this year, she said conditions are worse than they’ve ever been. Heather Vigil, a fourth-generation Coloradan, lives in the Fort Logan neighborhood in Denver. Vigil said that for years during the fall, she and her husband would take U.S. 285 to the mountains for autumn picnics and to enjoy the fall colors. They usually take the trip multiple times a year, however, this year’s drive was much different. By Kim Posey | Fox 31 News On Sunday, Denver-area broadband customers from multiple companies experienced outages that the companies are blaming on fires and vandalism. Chris Schroll lives in Parker and was impacted. His service is back but he received an email from BAM Broadband that said in part: “We have been given more information from our upstream carrier regarding the damage and we wanted to share this with you. It has been reported that the cause of the outage was vandalism. By Carol McKinley | Colorado Politics Before they became national news, young Venezuelan gang members in Colorado were harassing each other at gunpoint, stealing cars to commit other crimes and crashing wherever they could find a bed, according to arrest documents obtained by The Denver Gazette. One particular set of crimes involving two of the 10 Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang members arrested by Aurora police involved an entanglement of mostly 20-something Venezuelan immigrants in a what appeared to be a free-for-all turf war. Her mother worked in the harvest department at the time and encouraged Bautista and her brother to join her at Superior. The two siblings began the same day. She was a single mom with a three-month-old baby in a new city and spoke only Spanish. Bautista said her intuition from day one was that Superior Farms was a good company. She stayed and worked on the cleaning crew on the harvest floor. She and her mother and one other woman were the only three females in the harvest department. Trains will not operate between the terminal and Concourse A overnight for two nights. Passengers will use the bridge instead. Liberty Common High School will host a forum featuring candidates in House District 52 and 53, and Senate District 14. The forum will take place at the high school, 2745 Minnesota Dr., from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. House District 52 is a race which may have slipped under most radars. This month, the department adopted a new AI policy. In Highlander moment, Denver police arrest man accused of using sword in fatal roadside stabbing

By Noah Festenstein | Denver Gazette The Denver Police Department on Sunday arrested a suspect for fatally stabbing a young man with a sword in south Denver, according to the probable cause affidavit. In a statement, police said the stabbing took place around 10:57 a.m. at the corner of Lipan Street and Evans Avenue. At the scene, a 20-year-old victim was transported to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries, according to police.
