UnitedHealthcare covers double mastectomies for 17-year-olds with gender dysphoria

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell  | The Daily Signal America’s largest health insurance company covers double mastectomies for some 17-year-old girls who identify as transgender. UnitedHealthcare’s “Gender Dysphoria Treatment” guide, which took effect Dec. 1, says: “For mastectomy or breast reduction, individuals must be at least 18 years of age; however, individuals within one calendar year of turning 18 can be considered on a case-by-case basis.” UnitedHealthcare didn’t immediately respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment on the circumstances in which the health insurance company would cover double mastectomies for minors or how often it makes exceptions. Senate Democrats use ethics investigation to target conservative Supreme Court justices

By Gabrielle M. Etzel and Kaelan Deese | Washington Examiner Senate Democrats on Saturday morning concluded a nearly two-year-long investigation into the ethical practices of the Supreme Court, issuing a final report that focused on the court’s conservative members, accusing them of impropriety such as accepting lavish gifts and failing to recuse amidst conflicts of interests.  “Now more than ever before, as a result of information gathered by subpoenas, we know the extent to which the Supreme Court is mired in an ethical crisis of its own making,” Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Dick Durbin (D-IL) said in a statement Saturday morning.  The 97-page staff report accuses Justice Clarence Thomas, who joined the court in 1991, of receiving millions of dollars...

Craffey: How Trump can make the auto industry great again

By Matthew Craffey | Commentary, The Federalist When President-elect Donald Trump is sworn in as our 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025, he will inherit an auto industry that has been greatly diminished in recent years. There are many reasons for this decline, including the misguided environmental policies of the Biden administration, Chinese market manipulation and exploitation, and trade deals and regulations that cripple American auto manufacturers. Just how bad are things? Well, Stellantis (the parent company of Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram) reported a 48 percent profit decline in the first half of 2024, followed by a 27 percent drop in the third quarter. Astronomical fuel-efficiency fines from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) h...

House passes stopgap funding bill with just hours until government shutdown

By Elizabeth Elkind , Aubrie Spady , Breanne Deppisch  | Fox News The House has passed a bill to avert a partial government shutdown on Friday, hours before the midnight federal funding deadline.  Lawmakers were scrambling for a path forward after an initial bill was tanked by President-elect Trump and his allies on Wednesday, and a later bill approved by Trump failed on the House floor Thursday. But Trump has stayed noticeably silent on this latest measure – which many House Republicans saw as a tacit sign of approval. READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX NEWS

Where is Joe? White House pressed on Biden not speaking publicly ahead of shutdown

By Fox News A reporter pressed the White House Friday on why President Biden has not been speaking publicly as government shutdown is now just hours away.  “Why hasn’t President Biden said anything in the public about this? Don't the American people deserve to know why millions of federal workers could enter this holiday period without a paycheck?” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked Friday during her daily press briefing.  “All Americans need to know that Republicans are getting in the way here, and they are the ones who have created this mess. That's the reality. That's the fact,” she responded. “This is not the first time we've been here. And the president has had this approach before. He understands how Congress works. He's been around ...

Trump calls for government to shut down ‘now’ as GOP preps 11th-hour vote

By Josh Christenson | The New York Post President-elect Donald Trump blamed President Biden on Friday for the impending fiscal cliff-dive and suggested the government should shut down “now” — even as congressional Republicans are preparing an eleventh-hour push to approve short-term funding before midnight. “If there is going to be a shutdown of government, let it begin now, under the Biden Administration, not after January 20th, under ‘TRUMP,'” the incoming president declared around 8 a.m. Friday on Truth Social. “This is a Biden problem to solve, but if Republicans can help solve it, they will!” A few hours later, just after 10 a.m., Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) told reporters that the House GOP was preparing a package for a vote in the Rules Committee — which, if approved...
