President Trump sends in the National Guard as LA riots spiral after ICE raids

By Tyler O'Neil | Daily Signal UPDATE: Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said in a Sunday evening press conference that the violence was “getting increasingly worse and more violent.” “This violence that I’ve seen, it’s disgusting,” McDonnell said, according to Fox News. “It’s escalated now, since the beginning of this incident. What we saw the first night was bad. What we’ve seen subsequent to that is getting increasingly worse and more violent.” “We’ve seen people with hammers … breaking the bollards behind the federal building and taking the rocks. If you will, or pieces of concrete and throwing them at officers,” McDonnell added. “We’ve had liquid—of who knows what, description thrown at officers. There’s no limit to what they’re, doing to our officers,” he added. ...

Law and order works: U.S. murder rate plunges 20% under President Trump

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell | Daily Signal President Donald Trump’s law and order agenda is to thank for the murder rate dropping by 20% this year so far, the White House said Tuesday. Crime data analyst Jeff Asher reviewed the most homicide-prone cities nationwide and found a more than 20% decrease from 2024. “Since President Trump took office, murder rates have plummeted across the entire United States,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt told The Daily Signal in a statement. “American families were promised their communities would be safer and President Trump swiftly delivered by vocally being tough on crime, unequivocally backing law enforcement, and standing firm on violent criminals being held to the fullest extent of the law.” As of early May, murders wer...

Bhagat and Terjesen: To stay competitive, U.S. markets must reward performance—not politics

By Sanjai Bhagat and Siri Terjesen | The Daily Signal President Donald Trump’s America First Investment Policy touts that welcoming foreign investment and strengthening the United States’ “world-leading private and public capital markets will be a key part of America’s Golden Age.” Of the $124 trillion market capitalization of the global stock market, U.S. stocks account for 49%, and international investors own 17% of those U.S. stocks. By comparison, Chinese stocks comprise 13% of the global stock market, and international equity ownership of Chinese stocks is just 3.4%. Why does the U.S. stock market dominate internationally? Why are international investors attracted to the U.S. stock market? What can U.S. policymakers do to increase the a...

House panel plans to raise SALT deduction cap for members in blue states

By Jacob Adams | Daily Signal House Republicans are proposing to raise the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap to $30,000, up from its current rate of $10,000. The move was announced on Monday by the House Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo. The deduction would apply to single and joint filers who make $400,000 or less per year. The move would be a huge win for Republican members of Congress in blue states, who stand to benefit the most from the raise, given that blue states usually have higher state income tax rates.  The change in tax policy is expected to be hotly debated, given that some Republicans view the tax deduction as ultimately a form of federal subsidizing of blue state taxation policies. The t...

Trump in ‘constant communication’ with Israel about freeing Gaza hostages, Leavitt says

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell  | Daily Signal The Trump administration is in “constant communication and dialogue” with friends in Israel about getting remaining hostages out of Gaza, press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Friday. Ron Dermer, Israel’s minister of strategic affairs, visited the White House Thursday to meet with the Trump administration about the situation in Gaza. “The president and his entire national security team have made it very clear we want to see the hostages released from Gaza,” Leavitt said. “That is a priority for this administration.” READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY SIGNAL

White House replaces Surgeon General nomination

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell  | Daily Signal The Trump administration pulled the nomination of Dr. Janette Nesheiwat to be surgeon general following reports that she inflated her credentials, Bloomberg reported. President Donald Trump instead nominated Dr. Casey Means on Wednesday, saying Means “will work closely with our wonderful Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to ensure a successful implementation of our Agenda in order to reverse the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and ensure Great Health, in the future, for ALL Americans.” Means attended Stanford Medical School, then she pursued a surgical residency at Oregon Health & Science University. Before completing the program, she dropped out to start her own functional medicine practice and founded the...

Judge blocks school board from removing explicit books, saying it’s unconstitutional to follow ‘conservative values’

By Tyler O'Neil  | Daily Signal A school board in Colorado cannot remove sexually explicit, profane, and “transgender” books from school libraries because the school board is conservative, according to a federal judge touted as the first openly lesbian judge west of the Mississippi. The ACLU’s Colorado chapter filed a suit on behalf of two minors, the NAACP Wyoming State Area Conference, and the Authors Guild, claiming that the school district engaged in viewpoint discrimination when removing the books. The judge granted a preliminary injunction in March, forcing the Elizabeth School District (in Elizabeth, a suburb southeast of Denver) to restore the books. Judge Charlotte Sweeney second-guessed the school district’s objections to the books’ contents, calling the o...

Bowdey: June’s pride celebrations face a corporate retreat

By Suzanne Bowdey | Daily Signal , Commentary America is four weeks away from the LGBTQ movement’s biggest party, and companies are already RSVP’ing no. Thirty days out from Pride Month, the Left’s suffocating celebration of all things gay and trans, it’s obvious the cause’s long march through corporate America hasn’t just stalled, it’s in full-blown retreat. Just two years after Dylan Mulvaney’s catastrophic undoing of Bud Light, June’s over-the-top extremism—at least as a wholesale business concept—is dead. And taking plenty of influential mouthpieces with it. For most CEOs, it’s been a year of unprecedented realignment. Dozens of major brands are following up on their commitments to drop DEI and progressive political causes with news that they’ll no longer be spo...

Children ‘Do not belong to government,’ Education Dept. warns Colorado on transgender bill

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell  | Daily Signal As Colorado lawmakers consider a bill that would take custody rights away from parents who diverge from transgender orthodoxy, the Trump administration’s Education Department says that children aren’t the property of the government. “Children do not belong to the government. They belong to parents,” Education Department spokeswoman Julie Hartman told The Daily Signal. The Colorado House of Representatives passed a bill April 6 that would remove kids from parents’ custody for behaviors such as “misgendering” and “deadnaming” a transgender-identifying child. The bill has yet to progress in the Colorado Senate. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY SIGNAL

House approves SAVE Act election integrity measure

By Jacob Adams | Daily Signal The House of Representatives on Thursday approved the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act 220-208. Four House Democrats broke ranks and joined 216 Republicans to pass the election integrity measure, while 208 Democrats voted against it. The four Democrats who sided with the GOP were Reps. Jared Golden of Maine, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington state, Henry Cuellar of Texas, and Ed Case of Hawaii. The SAVE Act is designed to help reduce voter fraud by prohibiting states from registering individuals to vote in federal elections unless they first prove that they are American citizens with approved documentation. It also makes it a crime to register someone who does not provide proof of American citizenship, and it orders state...
