In 3rd District, Democratic Super PAC is running ads to help Ron Hanks win primary

By Jesse Paul and Sandra Fish | The Colorado Sun A Democratic super PAC is spending at least $84,000 — and counting — to air a television ad boosting the profile of an election conspiracy theorist it wants to see win the six-way Republican primary in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.  The ad campaign is an effort by Rocky Mountain Values PAC to advance former state Rep. Ron Hanks to the general election because the group appears to believe he will be easier for the de facto Democratic nominee, former Aspen City Councilman Adam Frisch, to beat in November.  It’s a strategy Democrats tried in multiple Colorado races in 2022, including Hanks’ bid for U.S. Senate that year. It didn’t work, however. The more moderate GOP candidates won their primaries, but lost in the ge...

Rep. Boebert’s bill delisting gray wolf from endangered list advances out of U.S. House

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert has delivered on one of the first promises she made to her potential new U.S. House district. In various debates in the 4th District, Boebert has noted the depredation by the gray wolf in Colorado, and had pledged to pursue a bill in Congress which would remove the gray wolf from the endangered species list. There are an estimated 13,000 gray wolves in the United States and another 30,000 in Canada. She authored House Resolution 764, titled the "Trust the Science Act", to remove protections the gray wolf enjoys while depredating livestock and other animals in Colorado. The act passed the U.S. House by a 209-205 vote Tuesday, oddly earning Democrat Rep. Yadira Caraveo's support among the four Democrat votes received. T...

Andrews, Webb qualify for ballot in crowded 3rd District primary field for Boebert’s seat in Congress

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice The dance card is filling up in the 3rd District's primary election to select the Western Slope's Republican nominee to potentially become the next representative in Congress. Russ Andrews and Lew Webb were added to the list of hopefuls to receive the party's nomination to the general election on Wednesday, when the Secretary of State's office announced their qualifications to the ballot. The seat is presently held by Rep. Lauren Boebert, who relocated to Windsor in the 4th District and is vying for the Republican nomination in that primary. It is the only Republican field larger than the 3rd District. Boebert had an opportunity to run for the Republican nomination in the 4th District's special election to replace ex-Rep. Ken Buck, but sa...

Hurd qualifies for primary ballot in Colorado’s 3rd District U.S. House race

Brian Porter | The Rocky Mountain Voice Jeff Hurd, a Grand Junction attorney, has qualified for a place on the ballot in Colorado's 3rd District in Congress, the Secretary of State's office announced Wednesday. Hurd has been endorsed by former Secretary of State Scott Gessler and former State Treasurer Walker Stapleton, who also was the Republican nominee for governor in 2018. On his campaign website, Hurd is in the race, it says, to "provide a sincere and hardworking representative focused more on doing something than being someone." Border security, improving the economy through job creation and empowering families are among the issues on his website. Hurd submitted 4,388 signatures on his petition, with more rejected signatures than accepted. The 2,162 signatures accepted me...

Stephen Varela, Ron Hanks emerge as top CO-3 candidates at Colorado Republican Assembly

By Anna Lynn Winfrey, Pueblo Chieftain Democrats have known for a few months that Adam Frisch will again be their candidate to run for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District seat in the House of Representatives. Republicans, on the other hand, will have at least a few candidates to choose from on primary ballots this November. Incumbent Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert moved over to Colorado's 4th Congressional District to run in the GOP primary for that district rather than participate in a rematch against Frisch. At least two more candidates emerged from the CO-3 assembly, held Friday afternoon at the Southwest Motors Event Center in Pueblo. Here's what to know. READ THE FULL STORY AT PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN
