Olohan: Harris plays coy on child gender transitions, but far-left groups endorsing child sex changes have her back

By Mary Margaret Olohan | Daily Signal Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has avoided addressing whether she supports transgender surgeries for minors—a far-left position that most Americans do not support. Yet a number of LGBTQ groups that endorse attempted gender transition procedures for children are eagerly backing Harris and her running mate Tim Walz. A few of these top LGBTQ groups are the American Civil Liberties Union, GLAAD, Advocates for Trans Equality, and the Human Rights Campaign. These organizations, which did not respond to requests for comment, warn against “anti-LGBTQ” legislation, citing fears that Republican politicians will protect children from transgender procedures, classroom discussions of gender and sexuality, and inappropriate drag perf...

RFK Jr.’s Speech Focused on American Values, Not Party Lines

By Margot Cleveland | The Federalist The reasons Robert Kennedy Jr. gave for limiting his campaign and endorsing Donald Trump aren’t matters of partisanship or policy, but a matter of survival for our constitutional republic. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. excoriated the Democrat Party, U.S. government, and our supposedly free press during his Friday press conference. Kennedy’s announcement that he will remove his name as a candidate for president in swing states and endorses Donald Trump brought cheers from Trump supporters and derision from Democrat die-hards. But what does the alliance between Trump and Kennedy mean to the future of the Republican platform? Properly understood, nothing. Friday’s speech was not about the policies of the Grand Old Party any more than it was about wheth...

Should Colorado’s constitution protect school choice? Voters will decide in November.

By Erica Breunlin | The Colorado Sun Colorado voters will decide whether they want to protect the right to school choice in the state constitution in November after a measure with that goal qualified for the ballot Friday. Put forth by conservative political nonprofit Advance Colorado Action, Initiative 138 sets out to reinforce parents’ ability to send their children to any public school, charter school, private school or homeschooling program they want. But some education advocates and policy experts see it as a stepping stone toward a state voucher program in disguise. Voucher programs give parents public dollars to enroll their kids in private schools, including those with a religious affiliation. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE COLORADO SUN

Trump threatens to skip ABC News debate against Kamala Harris

By James Lynch | National Review Former president Donald Trump Sunday evening raised the possibility of skipping his upcoming ABC News debate against Vice President Kamala Harris because of the network’s apparent bias against him. “I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s(K?) ridiculous and biased interview of Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!), and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters, and I ask, why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. ABC reporter Jonathan Karl’s Sunday interview with Senator Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) went viral after Karl tried defending Harris’s past support for ending private health insurance, a progressive position she took during her failed ...

Williams: Colorado Republican Party will sue to prevent special session

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Members of the Colorado Legislature are set to convene in a 74th Special Session on Monday at the Colorado State Capitol Building to settle the issue of property tax. Gov. Jared Polis called the session to prevent two propositions from advancing to the ballot and for a voter decision on the matter come November. One of those measures, Prop. 108, this week qualified for the ballot, Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced. And that is where the Colorado Republican Party believes the matter should stay -- in the hands of the voters. The party will sue to prevent legislators and the parties which filed the measures -- Advance Colorado -- from deals to undo the process and negotiate a different property tax outcome, Republican Party Chairman...

Berger: Democrats Can’t Turn Kamala Harris into the Next Obama

By BRIAN HAWKINS, Commentary | National Review Dear Weekend Jolter, When John Edwards exited the 2008 primary race to let Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama battle for the nomination while he tended to his, um, home life, he memorably declared he was stepping aside “so that history can blaze its path.” Democrats, judging by this week’s convention, are really working to recapture that feeling, to convince the electorate that gathering behind Kamala Harris’s sudden candidacy is the full force of History. Sonnenberg: It is ‘a great day for all’ in Logan County

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice High winds and a daily summer storm hit the Eastern Plains again Friday, a common weather feature for this time of the year, but Josh Sonnenberg is hopeful to avoid it just once, on Saturday. The chairman of the Logan County Republican Party is hosting the organization's annual scramble golf tournament and dinner at Riverview Golf Course. "Every year, we host this tournament and it is a great day for all of us to join together and enjoy each other's company," he said. "Win or lose, at the end of the day, we have all celebrated together and are excited and rejuvenated to finish out this election cycle." He sent a "last call" email Friday morning to Logan County Republicans that tournament and dinner sports were still available. Contact Sonn...

Hillman: For Trump to win, he must be disciplined

By Mark Hillman | Commentary, MarkHillman.com In a close election, everything matters.  Just ask Hillary Clinton about taking Wisconsin and Michigan for granted in 2016. This election looks like another close one because some voters will enthusiastically vote for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, but many others will again be voting against the candidate they dislike most. Based on recent polling, Trump has a base support of about 42%.  He can likely count on those voters no matter what.  Biden’s lowest numbers were similar, so Harris probably starts in the same or slightly better position depending on how long her media honeymoon lasts.  Support for third-party candidates has collapsed to 5% or less. A mere 10% of voters appear truly undecided.  If they v...

Kilpper: From vasectomy vans to hotties for Harris, The DNC was truly a freak show

By Gage Kilpper, Commentary | Daily Caller Throughout the Democratic National Convention, Democrats made a big show out of being “normal,” of standing for “freedom” and traditional, patriotic values. They did their best, but of course it is all a lie; there’s nothing normal about them. Allow me to guide you through the Democrats’ wondrous world of human freaks and oddities. But first, we must get inside! Careful, this is a dangerous path. Stay alert as we wade through the crowds of unwashed protesters — rabid, the lot of them. Feast your eyes on a veritable buffet of causes. Do you want to see the destruction of Israel? Care to donate to Hamas? Perhaps trans rights are more your speed. Or, think bigger: the true idealists here want global intifada or worldwide communist revolut...

Barone: The college graduates’ party’s candidate doesn’t know economic history

By Michael Barone, Commentary | Town Hall Learning isn't necessarily cumulative. Human experience over the centuries provides lessons, some clearer than others. But each generation has to learn lessons anew, and some do not. The lessons about economic growth taught over the long run of history are clear. Growth is not inevitable, and while riches may be accumulated, or appropriated, by the few in high positions, the lives of the very large majority throughout the centuries have been nasty, brutish and short. The exception, the Great Enrichment, began some three centuries ago, around the North Sea, in the Dutch Republic and England, according to economic historian Deirdre McCloskey, in societies when people began respecting and encouraging commerce, rather than resenting and scorni...
