Harris’ long a supporter of an end to fracking flip-flops on policy in fight for voters

By Susan Ferrechio | The Washington Times Once an advocate of a complete ban on fracking, Vice President Kamala Harris reversed course when she became the Democrats’ presumptive presidential nominee in an election that hinges on Pennsylvania voters. Fracking, the extraction of natural gas and oil from bedrock, makes up a critical part of Pennsylvania’s economy, supporting more than 100,000 jobs in the state, according to a recent analysis. Ms. Harris, who has embraced the Biden administration’s commitment to a net-zero electrical grid by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, has long supported an end to the fracking industry. She aligned herself with climate activists who are dedicated to ending fossil fuels and converting the nation’s energy to renewables such as ...

Sloan: With Biden out and Harris in, don’t toll the victory bell just yet

By Kelly Sloan | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice In the pantheon of political events, Joe Biden’s belated decision to become the first sitting President since Lyndon B. Johnson to not seek re-election was about as surprising as the advent of the sunrise at dawn. Even had George Clooney not bestowed the nation with the gravitas of his august thoughts on the matter, the weight of internal opposition – not to mention the polling that was looking increasingly grim for the aging and often bewildered President – was such that the decision was destined to be made sooner than later.  It’s telling, somewhat, that Biden refused to proffer any explanation for his withdrawal during his Oval Office address. The exact circumstances surrounding his acceptance of the ultimate decision – esp...

House GOP campaign arm names Colorado’s Jeff Hurd, Gabe Evans to ‘Young Guns’ program

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Monday that the Republican nominees in Colorado's most competitive congressional races were named to the House GOP campaign arm's Young Guns program for top challengers in targeted seats. First-time candidate Jeff Hurd and state Rep. Gabe Evans, R-Fort Lupton, are among 26 Republican House candidates inducted into the top tier of the campaign support program, which helps candidates who have met fundraising and organizational goals, the NRCC said. Hurd, a Grand Junction attorney, is facing Democrat Adam Frisch in the 3rd Congressional District, which covers most of the Western Slope and Southern Colorado, and Evans is running against first-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the N...

House District 22 is now a three-candidate race in El Paso County

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice A third candidate has joined the field in the Colorado House District 22 general election race. The signature petition of Daniel Campaña was certified last week by the secretary of state's office. He submitted 1,253 signatures, of which 1,056 were accepted to clear the minimum requirement of 1,000 valid signatures. Campaña joins the race which already was opposed. Republican Ken DeGraaf, who presently holds the seat, earned 9,538 votes in an unopposed Republican Party primary election. Democrat Michael Pierson collected 4,635 votes in an unopposed Democratic Party primary election. The district lies entirely in El Paso County. "Like 51% of our district, I'm an unaffiliated, which is really cool," Campaña says in a video at his campaign ...

Tony May faces Garfield School Board recall; accused of bullying, other claims

By Taylor Cramer  | The Post-Independent Former Garfield Re-2 School Board President Tony May is facing a recall election on Aug. 27. His opponent is Sott Bolitho, endorsed by the Coalition for Responsible Education in Re-2, who was profiled in the Post Independent and Citizen Telegram last week. The three-vote margin in the race did not change following the recount. “The mandatory recount for House District 58 is complete and has confirmed the results of the race with just a three-vote margin,” Secretary of State Jena Griswold said in a statement. “I commend the election workers in the eight counties in House District 58 for conducting this recount.” The recount awarded Suckla with 6,489 votes, a 50.01% margin, three votes ahead of J. By Thelma Grimes | Colorado Politics If asked, Gov. Jared Polis said he would seriously consider becoming the vice-presidential candidate behind Vice President Kamala Harris, who is working to secure the official Democratic nomination for president in 2024. After President Joe Biden officially dropped out of the race on Sunday, he endorsed Harris to take his spot as the Democratic presidential candidate. The change led to more discussion about who could be her running mate. Polis joked about the prospect during the Monday morning interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, saying he would consider it if called while noting that he loves the work he is currently doing in Colorado.
