It comes as parents and students continue to wonder about the possibility that there may have been ways to stop the shooter who injured two fellow students before taking his own life. "You don't ever want to be that individual that an active shooting happens... and you find out who it is, and you go, 'I knew that was going to happen. I knew it, right?' Jefferson County Sheriff releases timeline of SRO’s location during Evergreen shooting

By: Brooke Williams | Fox31 DENVER (KDVR) — The school resource officer assigned to Evergreen High School was not there at the time of the shooting earlier this month, raising questions about their whereabouts throughout the community. After the shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 10, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said during a press conference that the officer assigned to the school had left about two hours before shots were fired. Evergreen High School previously had a full-time School Resource Officer; however, that officer has been on medical leave, and the responsibility was being shared between other deputies. By Heather Willard | KDVR FOX31 DENVER (KDVR) — More details are emerging about how a 16-year-old student carried out a shooting last Wednesday at Evergreen High School, leaving two other students with critical injuries and killing himself. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that the first deputy was dispatched to the school at 12:24 p.m., “shortly after calls began to flood 911.” The agency said deputies arrived at the high school within two and a half minutes, and that during that time, the 16-year-old shooter had fired multiple rounds inside of Evergreen High School and injured a student. “While deputies responded quickly, the actions taken by teachers, staff, and students inside the school undoubtedly saved lives,” the sheriff’s office said. “They relied on th...

(KDVR) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says a full-time school resource officer will be assigned to Evergreen High School when students return to that campus after a school shooting there. The family of 18-year-old Matthew Silverstone released a photo and statement through the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon. “The family appreciates the community’s concern and support, but as we remain focused on our loved one’s recovery, we respectfully request privacy as we continue to heal and navigate the road ahead,” the statement said. By Heather Willard | KDVR FOX 31 DENVER (KDVR) — Hundreds of students were impacted Wednesday when one of their classmates brought a gun to campus and shot two students and himself at Evergreen High School. Freshman Sam Fisher was in the school’s band room when the lockdown began, just days into his first year of high school. “So we all kind of hid in a corner,” Fisher told FOX31’s Courtney Fromm. “We heard like the first gunshot, we were one of the first rooms that they went to.
