Colorado Officials Push Back As Trump Administration Expands Voter Roll Verification

By Micah Smith | Denver7 An Associated Press report found the Trump administration has already run millions of voter registrations through a federal government database to determine if the registered voters are eligible to vote. According to the AP, 67 million registrations mostly from Republican-led states have been run through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s verification program and tens of thousands of non-citizens and people who have died have been flagged. Critics said the percentage of non-citizens and deceased individuals is a small fraction of registered voters. The case, Watson v. RNC, challenges a Mississippi law that allows mail-in ballots to be received up to five days after Election Day, as long as the ballot is postmarked by Election Day. Fourteen states and the District of Columbia also allow mail-in ballots to be received after Election Day. Jeff Crank (CO-05) voted in favor of H.R. 7296, the SAVE America Act. “American elections are reserved for American citizens only,” Crank said after the vote. “The majority of American people want secure elections, and the SAVE America Act will require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.” The bill makes changes to the 1993 federal voter registration law, adding a requirement that applicants prove they are U.S. citizens.
