A federal court on Sunday issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration from sending three Venezuelan immigrants held in New Mexico to the Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, detention camp as part of the president’s efforts to remove illegal immigrants from the U.S.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that the “first flights” carrying illegal immigrants to Guantanamo Bay are underway. Leavitt made the announcement during an interview on Fox Business, where she said that President Donald Trump was not “messing around” with the plan that he announced last week during the signing ceremony of the Laken Riley Act.
