Outsiders Commit Most Crimes in Douglas County Despite Declining Rates

By Vicente Arenas | KDVR Fox 31 CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KDVR) — New information shows there has been a drop in crime rates in Douglas County in the last six months. However, 23rd Judicial District DA George Brauchler said the majority of people committing crimes in Douglas County are from other counties. The DA showed a dramatic video of Castle Rock police trying to capture a man driving a stolen car. The man behind the wheel can be seen trying to get away from officers by driving the vehicle back and forth, as it was pinned between two other cars. The driver is eventually able to speed away but is captured by officers from the Castle Rock Police Department moments later after a loud crash. “My best advice is, follow the freaking law. If you won’t do that, do yourself and us ...

Tracking the untracked: The dangerous fallout of Biden’s broken migrant child system

By Shaina Cole | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice Each year, children continue to arrive at the southern border without anyone to look after them. They’re officially called unaccompanied alien children—or UACs—but behind that label are thousands of kids trying to navigate an immigration system meant for adults.  Many are handed off to sponsors with little vetting, and some end up trafficked, working illegal jobs, or worse. The surge in vulnerable children Back in the early 2000s, the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) was handling fewer than 8,000 unaccompanied kids a year. But that’s changed dramatically.  By 2022, that figure had climbed to over 128,000. The following year saw more than 113,000 children placed with sponsors across the U.S. As of Jul...

Polis defends ICE data release as criminal investigation matter, but documents raise doubts

By Alayna Alvarez, John Frank | Axios Legal pressure is mounting against Democratic Gov. Jared Polis after revelations that he ordered state officials to comply with an ICE subpoena and hand over personal data of undocumented children in Colorado to federal immigration agents. The latest: Colorado WINS — the union representing more than 27,000 state workers — civil rights group Towards Justice and labor organization Colorado AFL-CIO announced Monday they're joining as plaintiffs on a whistleblower lawsuit filed last week by Scott Moss, a senior labor official in Polis' administration. Trump Admin reforms ‘unaccompanied alien children’ policy to prevent trafficking

By Neil Munro | Breitbart President Donald Trump’s deputies have reformed the Democrats’ 2008 “Unaccompanied Alien Children” (UAC) program to shrink migrant smuggling by labor traffickers and by illegal migrant parents. “This is another big win,” said the Immigration Accountability Project. “It would mean fewer children handed over to sex or labor traffickers.” But Democrat-affiliated pro-migration groups lament the reforms, which will require government officials to verify the legal or illegal status of people who volunteer to “sponsor” the many youth migrants who are welcomed across the border and housed in government-funded hostels. Child trafficking educational summit in Colorado Springs to present solutions

By Debbie Kelley | Colorado Springs Gazette Each year thousands of children in the United States are preyed upon, exploited, held captive, forced into labor and sold into sex and human trafficking markets. And with some half a million unaccompanied minor immigrants crossing the southern border and being released to adult sponsors under what critics call a fairly lax system, more are ending up in the same situation. “There’s a serious problem,” said Tara Lee Rodas, who recently became a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services whistleblower, when she reported that children were being handed over to gang members and people with criminal convictions. “I don’t believe people know there’s a problem, and the reason I can say that with confidence is that I had no idea what was going ...

Colorado Senate compromises to strengthen human trafficking laws, proposal heads to governor’s desk

By Marianne Goodland | Colorado Politics Human trafficking, particularly of children, has been a hot and divisive topic at the state Capitol this year. But a bipartisan group of lawmakers has found a way of putting more teeth into the state's laws by agreeing to a compromise that meant giving up a major provision but ultimately securing a proposal's passage.     On Tuesday, the Senate decided to withdraw their objections to changes the House made to Senate Bill 35 and send it on to the governor for signing, despite misgivings from some over changes made by the House to the measure.  But that vote came with strong words directed at the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, including a claim that the organization is hurting victims in Colorado.
