Schumann: Polis position as ‘protector of democracy’ at odds with his actions as governor

By Jen Schumann | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has positioned himself as a defender of state autonomy. He launched the Governors Safeguarding Democracy (GSD) Coalition with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. The coalition aims to fight federal overreach under a second Trump administration. Polis seeks to be seen as a champion of democracy.  "In this moment, protecting democracy has never been more relevant or important, and doing so demands strong leadership at the state level," Polis said in his press release announcing the coalition. A closer look at Polis's tenure reveals a different story. He has used his authority as governor to enforce contentious policies. Critics say these policies mirror the federal overreach he opposes. With rising crime a...

Colorado Governor silent on whether he’ll use far-left smear factory to cancel conservatives after flag squabble

By Tyler O'Neil | Daily Signal Colorado’s Democratic governor, Jared Polis, did not respond to concerns that his administration would rely on the Southern Poverty Law Center to exclude conservatives from a state flag program after his office apologized for honoring a gay organization the SPLC brands a “hate group.” Polis’ signature appeared on a document celebrating the Colorado chapter of Gays Against Groomers, a group of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people who oppose experimental transgender medical procedures on children. The SPLC—which vehemently supports transgender interventions for children and labels mainstream conservative and Christian organizations “hate groups,” placing them on a map along with chapters of the Ku Klux Klan—branded Gays Against Groomers an “anti-LGBTQ ...

Gov. Polis for Harris: She just had hard time thinking of differences from Biden ‘on the spot’

By Ian Hanchett | Breitbart On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D), who is also a Harris-Walz Surrogate, said that 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris “is a totally different person” from President Joe Biden, but she didn’t mention what she would have done differently because “it’s hard to think of things on the spot.” Host Kaitlan Collins asked, “When she was asked the other day if there was anything that she would have done differently from Biden, she said not a thing that would come to mind. Do you think, on immigration, she should have said, yes, that she would have handled things differently had she been president?” Polis responded, “Well, look, this is a totally different person. So, I’m excited by Kamala Ha...

Gov. Polis, leading Democrat lawmakers plan to grandstand Trump’s MAGA rally

By Jesse Sarles | CBS Colorado Friday will be a busy day in Colorado politics as former President Donald Trump is set to visit the state and hold a campaign rally in Aurora in the early afternoon.  In response, Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign announced Wednesday that several Democratic leaders will hold a news conference in Aurora a few hours before the former president's rally, and will "hold Trump accountable for spreading misinformation about the Aurora community." A statement from the Harris campaign said Colorado elected officials including Gov. Jared Polis, Sen. John Hickenlooper and Reps. Jason Crow and Diana DeGuette, who represent the state's 6th and 1st congressional districts, will appear at the event. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS COL...

Gov. Polis signs four gun-control bills destined for legal challenges by pro-gun advocates

By CBS 11 News Colorado's governor signed four gun control bills Friday, following the lead of other states struggling to confront a nationwide surge in violent crime and mass shootings, despite a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that expanded Second Amendment rights. Before the ink was even dry on Gov. Jared Polis' signature, gun rights groups sued to reverse two of the measures: raising the buying age for any gun from 18 to 21, and establishing a three-day waiting period between the purchase and receipt of a gun. The courts are already weighing lawsuits over such restrictions in other states. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS 11 NEWS

Gov. Polis signs property tax deal into law as measures removed from ballot

By Gabrielle Franklin | Fox 31 News The governor on Wednesday officially signed into law the property tax agreement designed to keep two initiatives off this year’s Colorado ballot. Now that the deal is done, FOX31 is taking a closer look at the impact it could have on your wallet. Property owners should still expect high property taxes this year, but state leaders say the increase will be lower than if the compromise had not been passed and if ballot initiatives 50 and 108 failed. If 50 and 108 passed without lawmakers reconvening for a special session, there could have been devastating impacts on funding for local services. Lawmakers celebrated the end of what they called property tax wars with groups that often bring property tax measures, but some concerns around the effects s...

Colorado has ‘active investigations’ into suspected migrant gang violence, ‘real people’ being hurt: DA

By Timothy H.J. Nerozzi  | Fox News Members of law enforcement are furious after Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis called migrant gang violence at Aurora apartment complexes "misinformation." Arapahoe County, Colorado, District Attorney John Kellner spoke with Fox News's "America's Newsroom" Friday about the ongoing police response to the gangs of migrant criminals terrorizing apartments, which have been caught on camera. "I can tell you we're aggressively prosecuting any of the cases that we see come across our desk," Kellner told Fox News. "We've got a multi-agency task force looking into these crimes right now. And whenever we see a gang try to infiltrate our community or get a foothold, we're going to prosecute them vigorously." READ MORE At FOX NEWS

Smrz: Venezuelan Gang Expands In Denver

By Jimmy Smrz | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Denver is facing an unprecedented threat as the Venezuelan criminal gang Tren de Aragua (TDA) expands its operations into the city. Notorious for its involvement in extortion, kidnapping, and murder, TDA has given its members a “green light” to attack and open fire on Denver police officers, sparking serious concerns about the safety of the city. With local law enforcement already stretched thin by budget cuts and escalating crime, Denver's Mayor Mike Johnston and the city seem ill-prepared for this threat. Global Cartel, Local Consequences TDA’s influence reaches far beyond Venezuela, where it has operated with impunity, and is now taking root in U.S. sanctuary, cities including New York, Chicago, and ...
