In re-election rematch, Biden and Trump throw sharp jabs over the economy

By Naomi Lim | Colorado Springs Gazette President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are posturing over the economy as they prepare for what is poised to be a 2020 general election do-over this November. Their endeavors to redefine their economic records and receive credit for a rosier outlook after the COVID-19 pandemic coincide with their appeals to working-class voters and the unions that represent some of them, with the demographic underpinning their respective 2016 and 2020 wins in states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In his pivot toward the campaign, Biden has underscored positive economic data, including Friday's strong jobs report, last week's reports that the economy expanded by 3.1% during t...

Republicans skeptical the ‘case has been made’ to push Biden impeachment into reality

By Jack Birle | Denver Gazette As House Republicans move one step closer to impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, more members of the House GOP conference are skeptical about impeaching his boss. The House GOP has dedicated a significant portion of its current stint in control of the chamber exploring and hyping up impeaching President Joe Biden, but some within the conference still think the case has yet to be made to the public. “While I think that it’s pretty clear, I don’t know that the case has been made adequately to the American people,” Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) said, according to CNN. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DENVER GAZETTE

In Colorado, poll finds Biden’s lead over Trump half of 2020 margin

What a difference four years can make. In 2020, Joe Biden’s route to the White House included a cruise control victory of 13.5 percentage points in Colorado over President Donald Trump. Although Biden still has a firm grasp on the state, an Emerson College poll released Friday and conducted from Jan. 23-28 finds Biden’s projected margin of victory has shrunk to 6% in the Centennial State. Colorado holds 10 Electoral College votes and 270 are needed to win the Presidency. In the Emerson College poll, which included polling of four states in the presumed general election field of Trump vs. Biden, 76% would vote for one of the two candidates, 13% choosing “someone else” and 11% remaining undecided. “Both Biden and Trump are experiencing lower levels of support compared to 2020,...

Biden: jobs report ‘proof’ economy ‘strongest in the world’

By Haisten Willis | Denver Gazette President Joe Biden called the United States economy the "strongest in the world' as the January jobs report showed the country adding 353,000 jobs last month. "Today, we saw more proof [of the economy's strength], with another month of strong wage gains and employment gains of over 350,000 in January, continuing the strong growth from last year," Biden said. "Our economy has created 14.8 million jobs since I took office, unemployment has been under 4% for two full years now, and inflation has been at the pre-pandemic level of 2% over the last half year." The economy beat expectations in January and added 353,000 jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday morning, showing that the labor ...
