Why a voter ID filibuster could become a 24/7 GOP campaign ad

By Rachel Bovard | Commentary, The Federalist What if I told you Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., has the power and the votes — right now — to save Republicans’ congressional majorities, President Trump’s second-term agenda, and may be the republic itself, all while poleaxing Democrats on the short side of an 84-15 issue? It sounds like fantasy. But like the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legend, 2026 is offering up to the GOP a political weapon almost as powerful as Excalibur itself: an extended Democrat talking filibuster of national voter ID legislation. Popular Idea, Toxic Opposition Requiring voters to prove their citizenship is one of the most popular ideas in the country, with 84 percent of Americans supporting and only 15 percent opposed....

SAVE Act Gains Momentum as GOP Pushes Citizenship Verification to Vote

By Nicholas Ballasy | Just the News Republican Sens. Katie Britt of Alabama and Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania announced they are now cosponsoring the legislation, which was introduced by GOP Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Rick Scott of Florida, last year. Two Senate Republicans on Wednesday rallied behind the House-passed Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote for federal elections. The new push comes amid pressure from conservative figures, including Elon Musk, and as the Trump administration pushes states to clean up their voter rolls to eliminate potentially illegal voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.  Republican Sens.&nb...

Noncitizen Testifies She Voted Repeatedly In Georgia Elections

By: Brianna Lyman | The Federalist A woman who moved to Georgia from the Bahamas 30 years ago and is not a citizen admitted during a Dec. 9 State Election Board (SEB) hearing that she has voted multiple times. It is illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections. Clayton County resident Melanie Pickett is a Bahamian native but has lived in the Peach State for approximately 30 years. According to Pickett, she does not “know” “how it happened.” “I got a driver’s license … and then I started getting” voting-related information “in the mail, and I said, ‘Oh, OK.’ And then I got a jury duty [summons]. So I went to jury duty, and at the end of the information [sheet] you had to fill out, it said, ‘Are you a U.S. citizen,’ and I said, ‘no’ and they told...

Cole: I support the SAVE Act—but we need to fix the documentation trap

By Shaina Cole | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Living in Colorado for nearly four years, I’ve grown to love its sweeping landscapes and spirited community. But the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, passed by the House in 2024 and under Senate review in 2025, alongside the REAL ID Act’s looming May 7, 2025, deadline, has exposed a personal struggle that highlights a broader issue.  The SAVE Act demands photo ID and proof of U.S. citizenship—like a REAL ID, passport, or birth certificate—to vote in federal elections. I support its aim to ensure election integrity, but as a twice-divorced woman without my marriage certificates, I’m trapped. My Tennessee driver’s license, despite proving my name change in 2014, isn’t REAL ID-compliant, and even without the...

21 Million Voters Can’t Provide Proof Of Citizenship — Making The SAVE Act Even More Necessary

By Brianna Lyman | The Federalist The left-wing Brennan Center for Justice claimed that more than 20 million Americans “lack ready access” to proof of citizenship documents. What’s more, the group asserted that survey data shows nearly 4 million Americans “don’t have these documents at all.” The Brennan Center apparently relied on the honor system when performing its survey, so it’s not clear that the respondents are even American citizens — as is often the case with the current voter registration system. But even if they are citizens, failing to require proof of citizenship still poses a threat to the integrity of U.S. elections. Yet the left and the propaganda press oppose the SAVE Act because they claim Americans are essentially too lazy to get their citizenship documents in order...

House passes bill requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote in U.S.

By ALEX MILLER | The Washington Times The House passed legislation Wednesday to make people provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote, a measure aimed at preventing illegal immigrants from voting. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility or the SAVE Act would amend the National Voter Registration Act to require people to register in person with documents that prove they are citizens such as a Real ID, passport or other identification that shows place of birth. The NVRA currently does not require proof of citizenship but asks registrants to attest that they are citizens or face penalties.  Rep. Chip Roy, the sponsor of the measure, said his bill was meant to ensure only American citizens vote in U.S. elections. He also accused President Biden and Democrats of pushi...
