EVERY Day In America Is ‘No Kings Day’—READ the U.S. Constitution

By Russ Minary | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice

“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” Mark Twain may or may not have said it, but whoever did certainly had a valid point. Today in 2025, many people seem to know a lot that just ain’t so.

Over the weekend, thousands of people gathered in cities across the U.S. for a series of “No Kings” rallies and protests. The NO KINGS website lists many partner organizations including marxists, socialists, communists, anti-Americans, Democrats, progressives, radical environmentalists, abortionists, anarchists and many others that oppose the lawful Constitutional authority and order of our Republics—some of whom advocate rebellion, insurrection, violence and the overthrow of the U.S. government. Other than really disliking authority (and hating President Trump) their goals are vague. Nations that embrace the various political ideologies above (like N. Korea, Russia, Communist China, Iran and Venezuela) tend to have no constitutions or democracy and oppressive, murderous dictators.

The vast majority of Americans do not want a king—or a dictator. I certainly don’t and would absolutely stand against anyone trying to be one. Not. On. My. Watch.

SPOILER ALERT: if you attended one of these protests—or are considering joining future ones—consider this: you’ll waste your time, look naïve, and probably accomplish nothing positive or constructive other than yelling, making some new like-minded friends, and expressing your angst which may relieve some stress.

This article provides some more positive ways to exercise your freedoms and be accurately informed. We are all welcome to our own opinion, but not to our own facts.

Americans can legally speak out, voice their opinions, follow their conscience, practice their religious beliefs and peacefully protest because of the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights which I absolutely support. It’s important to note that the freedoms enjoyed by all American citizens—including these protestors—are protected by the Constitution.

Many Americans get their info from unreliable sources like hearsay, rumors, social media, propaganda and intentionally biased news sources. As a result, they believe things that are untrue and may react emotionally or angrily. Angry mobs, violence, murder, lawlessness, division, destruction, criminal behavior and chaos can be the result. I oppose that.

Here are EIGHT REASONS why there will never be a KING in the United States of America.

FIRST – Background, history and facts can easily be verified from reliable sources by those willing to do some research for themselves (or click on the links in this document). Start by searching in the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution defines itself in Article 6 (the Supremacy Clause) as “…the supreme Law of the land…” This means that every agency, bureau, service, branch and part of government, and all persons who serve in government, are subordinate to its authority.

SECOND – The Colonies were formed by people who no longer wanted to be ruled by England’s tyrannical King George III. Pilgrim settlers left England and came here seeking individual freedom, a safe place to worship God, and a nation where they could own property and pursue their chosen livelihoods without high taxes or punishing and authoritarian government policies. The underlying reasons for our American Revolution are detailed in the Declaration of Independence, the founding document of our nation and basis for the Constitution. When our nation celebrates Independence Day every 4th of July, we celebrate the signing of that Declaration on July 4, 1776.

THIRDThe Constitution very clearly prohibits kings or any nobility in Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 (the Sovereignty Clause) which states: “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.” It’s crystal clear that NO KING will ever govern our Republic.

FOURTHGeorge Washington, known as the “Father of His Country,” was arguably the most respected leader during and after the American Revolution. And Washington himself provided a practical test of the “no kings” principle.

A few years after gaining freedom from the English monarchy, it was ironically suggested that 1) America should establish its own monarchy, and 2) that Washington would be the first American king. Given his proven leadership skill, sterling character and unshakeable faith, Washington had every possible qualification for the role.

After he had led the Continental Army to victory in the Revolutionary War, Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention—by which the U.S. Constitution was established. He was intimately familiar with every part of the document. So, if any person understood the Constitution, knew what he was talking about and deserved to be the “King of America,” that would be Washington himself.

But what did George Washington do when given that opportunity to become a king? He flatly refused. Instead, he served as the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797. He then retired as a private citizen for the rest of his life, setting the example for every future president. George Washington was so universally revered that we still celebrate his birthday on the federal holiday known as President’s Day.

FIFTH – The Constitution specifically defines three co-equal branches of government (Legislative, Executive, Judicial) which ensures the separation of powers and prevents any one branch, state—or individual—from becoming too powerful.

SIXTH – Every past, present and future American president must swear an official and required oath of office to “…preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States…” Every president must obey the constitutionally defined and limited powers of the office as: Chief Executive, Commander in Chief, Chief of State, Chief Law Enforcement Officer and Chief Diplomat. Being king is not among their powers.

Of course, a few past presidents have violated and bent the constitutional limits of their powers to their own will, ambitions, agenda, personal benefit or political beliefs. Recently, Mr. Obama suggested that all he needed was a “pen and a phone” in order to implement his agenda, and then deported more than 3 million noncitizens, the highest number of deportations by any president in history.

Mr. Biden opened the borders to millions of illegal immigrants, in direct violation of the Constitution and existing U.S. customs and immigration laws. But there are no protests against the actions of these presidents, which seems like a double standard to me.

In my opinion, some of the worst presidential violators in U.S. history would include:

  • Andrew Jackson – a founder of the Democrat Party who owned slaves and advocated for slavery in the West; and forcibly removed Native Americans from their lands, killing thousands in the process.
  • Woodrow Wilson – a Progressive Democrat, and president of Princeton who kept blacks from enrolling, glorified the KKK and spoke openly about ending the Constitution’s limits and increasing the executive powers of the president, formed the Federal Reserve, and signed the Federal Income Tax into law.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt – a Democrat who was elected to four terms (which spurred the 22nd Amendment which limited a president to two terms); created much of the federal bureaucracy, financial agencies and welfare state we see today; attempted to pack the Supreme Court; made it illegal for U.S. citizens to possess gold; and signed an executive order which confiscated the property of about 120,000 legal Japanese-American citizens and sent them to internment camps.

SEVENTH – Adolf Hitler’s name is sometimes invoked and applied to various people by the No Kings movement—but that view ignores the facts. After winning the election for Chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler suspended the Weimar Constitution and assumed unlimited dictatorial powers as absolute leader of the Nazi Party. “Nazi” is a shortened term for “National Socialist,” so the Nazis were socialists. Hitler’s tyranny resulted in the genocide of millions of Jews (“the Final Solution”) and the slaughter of countless innocent human beings in World War II. Were it not for the U.S. and the Allied Nations, we would all be speaking either Japanese or German today.

Dwight D. Eisenhower was the supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force which defeated Hitler, and later served as a Republican president from 1953–1961. But he was never close to being a king, thanks to the Constitution.

FINALLY – Every American should know about the Judeo-Christian roots of our nation. The Pilgrims, Colonists and Founding Fathers believed in a trustworthy, sovereign and eternal God and a King, Jesus Christ. Contrary to popular belief, God is mentioned in both the Constitution (last paragraph of Article VII) and in the first two paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence. The Bible is the source of many principles of U.S. governance in the Constitution and American jurisprudence, and is the most widely read, sold and translated book in the world.

I’ll end with this one thought. It is your right to disagree with what I’ve written, but until you have actually read, studied and understand the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bible, your “knowledge” is unfounded, uninformed, limited and based on opinion—rather than facts. FACTS AND TRUTH STILL MATTER. And so does the Constitution, which is the safeguard of our freedoms in the United States of America.
