(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Colorado are not decreasing, according to reports of increased local immigrant detentions. Advocacy groups are actively monitoring enforcement actions across the state as federal agents shift toward localized tactics.

Data collected over more than 18 months by immigration advocates indicates that ICE has maintained a consistent presence in southern Colorado neighborhoods. The agency has reportedly moved away from conducting large-scale raids, focusing instead on targeted enforcement at residences and places of employment.

Monica, Rapid Response Coordinator for the Colorado Rapid Response Network, outlined the organization’s objective in tracking the enforcement. “The goal is to verify the presence of this activity, record all occurrences and also attempt to decelerate these instances of concerning injustices taking place within our community,” Monica said.

Because operations are concentrated in specific neighborhoods, public awareness of ICE activity varies across the state. Judith, a representative with the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, noted that residents outside those southern Colorado communities may not observe the enforcement. “This has resulted in a split regarding how active people perceive ICE to be in Colorado, though the agency is indeed active,” Judith said.
