‘Washington’ Republicans have failed America, Heritage Foundation president says

By Hudson Crozier  | The Daily Signal Elite “Beltway Republicans” are responsible for the decline of America, Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts declared Monday at the National Conservatism Conference in the nation’s capital.  The influential conservative leader directed his remarks at the gathering against the foreign policy and political compromises of some GOP politicians. “The Washington Republicans … have, for a generation, failed this republic” by not prioritizing American interests and by conceding issues to the Left, Roberts told a crowd of several hundred at the Capital Hilton hotel. “Their messages, their policies, their leadership have hurt this nation.”  Roberts said the point of Monday’s conference was to pressure such leaders to fall in lin...

Kirk: To secure the White House in 2024, we must win low-propensity voters

By CHARLIE KIRK | The Daily Caller As the media world and D.C. insiders become increasingly transfixed by the fallout from President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance, it becomes more important than ever that the conservative movement remains steadfastly focused on the most important things — namely, registering voters and chasing their ballots. This is the hard work that wins elections in our modern era and that has quite literally flipped conventional election logic on its head. To that end, there is a term you are going to hear more and more this summer and fall as the key factor in former President Donald Trump’s hopes of retaking the White House: “Low-propensity voter.” READ THE FULL COMMENTARY AT THE DAILY CALLER Editor's note: Opinions expressed in co...

In shadow of bipartisan Senate Bill 23-275 creating mustang task force, BLM plans another roundup

By Jennifer Brown | Colorado Sun Four years into an aggressive federal campaign to thin wild horse herds across the West, Colorado officials fed up with helicopter roundups tried something unique — a state-federal working group to collaborate on mustang population control.  Then the U.S. Bureau of Land Management went ahead and proposed its next helicopter roundup.  The announcement in May that the federal agency based in Washington, D.C., plans to remove 85-110 mustangs from Little Book Cliffs near Palisade has set off a fresh round of indignant comments from Colorado officials and run the state-federal collaboration into a wall.  The main question: What is the point of the state working group if the federal government isn’t even listening?  RE...

Dion: Colorado Republicans, it’s time to unite and fight

By JAMESON DION | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice In Colorado, Republican Party politics has been defined in recent years by losses, infighting and a steady decline in the percentage of Colorado voters that affiliate with the party. Consider, just 24% of Colorado's registered voters were republicans as of June 2024. Democrats have controlled all statewide offices, and both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature since 2019. In short, it’s been tough to be a Colorado Republican of late.    This year’s elections offer hope and optimism. Joe Biden’s cognitive issues were on full display in the first Presidential debate. His age and decline was so apparent, many Democrat lawmakers and their typically reliable media mouthpieces have publicly questioned his abi...

In Wyoming, there’s a movement to ditch machines in favor of hand counts and secretary of state supports it

By Leo Wolfson | Cowboy State Daily A push to eliminate electronic ballot counting machines in favor of hand counts in Wyoming’s elections is spreading across the state, and it has the full support of Secretary of State Chuck Gray. Wyoming Voter Initiatives, the same group that recently turned in 44,000 signatures to get a property tax initiative on the 2026 ballot, is now working on a new effort to have all ballots hand counted. The goal is to get the initiative on the 2026 ballots and implemented for the 2028 elections. In addition to the “People’s Initiative to Restore Hand Tabulation of all Elections in Wyoming” ballot initiative, the group also wants to overhaul the state’s Title 22 election code through the Legislature by enacting measures allowing for public ba...

Tooker: Why am I opposed to the 400,000-acre proposed Dolores River National Monument?

By Aimee Tooker | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The west end of Montrose County is one of four Tier One coal-affected communities in Colorado. The effect of the closure of Western Fuels coal mine in 2018 and Tri-State Generation and Transmission’s coal plant in 2019 (two years ahead of schedule) had an obvious detrimental effect on our local businesses. Nucla-Naturita Fire Department suffered a 65% local property tax loss. The $550,000 we received from Tri-State generation has been spent methodically and gratefully. Since 2014 the west end has developed and has been implementing our economic diversification plans along with our recent coal-affected community transition plans. The proposed Dolores River National Monument will stonewall all economic processes that our ...

Krannawitter: The constant in life is Joe Biden and he’s not going anywhere

By THOMAS L. KRANNAWITTER, PH.D. | Commentary, Liberty Lyceum Barring some catastrophic medical or other emergency, Joe Biden won’t be stepping down before the November general election. Even if he experiences some debilitating medical crisis—such as a paralyzing stroke—he might still not step down. Jill Biden shows many signs of being another Edith Wilson. If Edith Wilson—wife of President Woodrow Wilson—could conceal her husband’s stroke and control what information the President received and who was permitted to see him, why can’t Jill Biden? There is, after all, a long tradition of Democratic wives married to Presidents lying about and actively covering up big problems with their husbands. U.S. home prices just hit another all-time high, Redfin report shows

By Megan Henney | Fox Business The cost of buying a new house just hit another all-time high, according to new data.  Findings from Redfin show the median U.S. home sale price soared to $397,954 in June – a nearly 5% increase from a year earlier. That marks the highest level on record and the biggest annual increase since March. The monthly mortgage payment at that price, when accounting for the 6.86% median interest rate for a 30-year mortgage, is now $2,749. That is roughly $88 shy of April's record, thanks to a slight drop in mortgage rates. "High mortgage rates and record-setting home prices have made affordability the biggest challenge in the housing market in 2024," said Lisa Sturtevant, Bright MLS chief economist. Platte River to break ground on largest solar project in Northern Colorado

By BizWest Platte River Power Authority will officially break ground on its Black Hollow Solar project, which will provide enough electricity to power more than 36,000 homes a year. The authority will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday to commemorate its largest solar project to date, the Black Hollow Solar project. The plan is to complete it by 2025 and deliver roughly 367,000 megawatt-hours of energy to Platte River’s system every year, according to a news release. The pandemic, tariffs and other challenges delayed the project for three years, the release said. READ THE FULL STORY AT BIZWEST

Fentanyl, weapons, other drug seizures at northern border setting records

By  Bethany Blankley | The Center Square Federal agents working at ports of entry in northern U.S. cities and in small towns along the U.S.-Canadian border are continuing to thwart illegal activity. Federal agents working in Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati and in a small border town of North Dakota continue to interdict fentanyl, weapons, fake e-cigarettes and illegal prescription drugs stemming from the border crisis. In Detroit, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations agents seized nearly six pounds of fentanyl in one enforcement action at the Fort Street Cargo Facility. It was the largest seizure of its kind for the Port of Detroit, and one of the largest inbound fentanyl seizures at the northern border in the last five years, CBP says. READ THE FULL ...
