By Colorado Peak Politics Republican delegates rolled through six rounds of balloting before finally choosing Greg Lopez to serve as a placeholder for the remainder of Ken Buck’s congressional term representing the 4th District. But first, Lopez must win the special General Election on June 25 against whomever the Democrats chose as their candidate. Democrats are already attacking on social media with old clips of Kyle Clark throwing mud at Lopez, the former mayor of Parker and GOP gubernatorial candidate. Media coverage this morning is also focused on rehashing Lopez’s previous negative media coverage in an attempt convince Republicans not to support him. Biden Administration made $236B in ‘Improper Payments’ last year: GAO report

By Naveen Athrappully | The Epoch Times An estimated $236 billion in improper or incorrect payments was made under the Biden administration last year, with Medicare and Medicaid accounting for $100 billion of that total, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). “For fiscal year 2023, 14 agencies reported a total estimated $236 billion in improper payments across 71 programs,” said a March 26 GAO report. Improper payments refer to payments “that should not have been made or were made in the incorrect amount.” The $236 billion calculation does not include certain government programs that agencies determined were “susceptible to significant improper payments.” As such, GAO believes the $236 billion estimate “potentially does not represent the full extent of impro...

Jack Swigert had been elected to the newly created 6th District in Colorado. The Republican won election to the seat on Nov. 2, 1982, but on Dec. 27, 1982, Swigert died of respiratory failure seven days before taking office. "This is not business as usual," Weins said. By CARIE CANTERBURY | Canon City Daily Record Individuals wishing to gain employment as a detentions deputy at the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office no longer have to wait until they are 21 to apply. On Tuesday, the Fremont County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution amending the Fremont County Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual with a lower age requirement for detention deputies from 21 to 18. “Hopefully that will resolve some staffing shortages that we have ongoing,” Fremont County Human Resources Director Alicia Stone said during Tuesday’s BOCC meeting. The Arizona Diamondbacks scored 14 runs in a third-inning offensive onslaught Thursday night and by then the Rockies trailed 16-1. It marks the worst single inning in franchise history in terms of most hits, runs and batters allowed, the Associated Press reported. The 14 runs are the most in an inning on Opening Day for any team since 1900, more than a century, according to Elias Sports. The D-backs sent 18 batters to the plate and had 13 hits, two walks and one sacrifice fly, the Associated Press reports. Longmont Starbucks becomes 11th location in Colorado to unionize

By BizWest LONGMONT — Longmont Starbucks workers at the 17th and Hover store have become the latest coffee shop workforce to join a union. The workers petitioned to join the Starbucks Workers United union in February and followed through with a vote this week. The workers voted 15-4 to join more than 410 stores and 10,000 Starbucks workers nationwide who have decided to unionize.
