Colorado’s wolves could have migrated east of Continental Divide, into Fremont County

By Heather Willard | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News Colorado’s wolf population now has 29 members, according to state officials, and one of the population members is “exploring” a watershed in what Colorado Parks and Wildlife called southeastern Colorado. On Wednesday, the state released its first monthly movement map since the release of 15 Canadian gray wolves and the five surviving members of the Copper Creek pack. The 20 wolves were released into Eagle and Pitkin counties between Jan. 12 and 18 and were released both north and south of Interstate 70. “One female wolf is exploring the southeast region of the state,” CPW said in its Wednesday release. “There is currently just one wolf in the highlighted watershed.” READ THE FULL STORY AT KDVR-TV FOX 31 NEWS

Denver mayor says city will work with ICE under certain circumstances

By Vicente Arenas | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News The city of Denver is preparing for what some have said could be mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. Now, federal prosecutors say they will investigate anyone who stands in the way of beefed-up enforcement of immigration laws. Is it last call in Colorado? The state lost 41 breweries in 2024, beer sales down 1.2% more than national average

By Spencer Kristensen | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News If you live in or have ever been to Colorado, one thing you may notice is that Coloradans love a good brewery. Colorado has boasted the likes of breweries such as Coors, New Belgium Brewing Company, Left Hand Brewing and Odell Brewing Co. While Colorado has breweries in its DNA, beer sales are down and 41 breweries closed or left the state last year, according to a press release from the Colorado Beverage Coalition. The Colorado Beverage Coalition said that 2024 was another challenging year for Colorado brewers. By Heather Willard | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News The Jefferson County Public Schools administration said Tuesday it is “grappling” with the death of the district’s former chief of schools, who was under investigation for child pornography. At the same time, administrators said they are working to strengthen student safety. Jeffco Board of Education President Mary Parker released a letter Tuesday about recent board actions regarding the investigation’s circumstances. By Jacob Factor | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News “An elephant is not a person” and is not afforded the same liberties as a person under the Colorado Constitution, the Colorado Supreme Court decided Tuesday. The state’s highest court upheld an El Paso County District Court decision that decided five elephants at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo were not included in state liberty statutes. The petitioner, the Nonhuman Rights Project, had argued the animals should be included and should be moved to a sanctuary “because they are autonomous and extraordinarily cognitively and socially complex beings,” according to the opinion announcement. Colorado lawmakers react to inauguration of President Donald Trump

Trump was sworn in to serve as U.S. President for the second time on Monday, Jan. 20, drawing reactions from around the world, but also from some of Colorado’s lawmakers. Trump named Colorado several times during his campaign for presidency, and visited Aurora in October to speak about immigration and the gang violence reported at troubled apartments in the city. Those apartments are now under an emergency closure order, and the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency said in December that 16 people arrested in connection to an armed apartment invasion were suspected Tren de Aragua members or associates. The weather was expected to be so cold on Monday that the main ceremony was to be moved inside the Capitol Rotunda. The last time the swearing-in was moved indoors was in 1985 when President Ronald Reagan began his second term. Monday’s forecast calls for the lowest Inauguration Day temperatures since that day. Task force arrests eight in Northern Colorado multinational drug trafficking bust

By Morgan Whitley | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News Eight people were arrested for distributing dangerous drugs in northern Colorado and Wyoming in a drug trafficking bust, according to the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force. In April 2024, the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force received information about a local drug trafficking organization that was led by a Johnstown man. Detectives identified Curtis Rogers as a distributor and claimed he supplied methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone, and fentanyl across the area. Following an investigation, known as Operation King Friday, detectives learned Rogers had connections to what they called a multinational drug trafficking organization based in Mexico.
