Law requiring all eggs sold in Colorado to be cage-free to go into effect as 2025 begins

By Samantha Jarpe | Fox 31 News All eggs sold in the state of Colorado will be cage-free starting Jan. 1, 2025. This is because of a law that was passed and signed into law in 2020. The first part of the law already went into effect in 2023. That portion of the law required hens to be given more usable space in order for their eggs to be sold in the state. The portion of the law going into effect in 2025 requires hens to be in a cage-free housing system. ‘Operation Aurora is coming,’ Council member warns Aurora police chief, staff

By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News Aurora Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky spoke out in a November committee meeting to tell the police department, city council and city staff that President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan is “coming.” Jurinsky made the comments at a meeting of the Aurora City Council Public Safety, Courts and Civil Service Committee on Nov. 14, which she chairs. The committee meets monthly and will not meet again until 2025. Also at the meeting was new Aurora Police Department Chief Todd Chamberlain, who was asked if the police agency needed support and more aid from surrounding agencies, such as the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office or the National Guard. By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News Denver City Council is once again eyeing a flavored nicotine ban, which supporters say would protect children in the metro area, according to council documents. In 2021, then-Denver Mayor Michael Hancock vetoed a measure passed by Denver City Council to ban flavored nicotine sales in the city. At the time, vape shop owners in Denver told FOX31 that the ban would impact over 90% of their inventory and likely put them out of business. By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News Law enforcement reported this week that a 32-year-old man arrested at the Port of Buffalo, Peace Bridge border crossing on Tuesday was wanted for felony warrants out of Arapahoe County. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers first met the man after he made a wrong turn in a 2016 Nissan Altima onto the Peace Bridge. By Spencer Kristensen | Fox 31 News Friday marks 160 years since Colorado’s Sand Creek Massacre, where U.S. soldiers attacked a camp of indigenous people, mostly women and children, killing hundreds. On Nov. 19, 1864, what has become known as the “deadliest day in Colorado history,” more than 200 innocent people were killed by U.S. Army soldiers in an attack on the Cheyenne and Arapaho people. The lawsuit is in response to certain unlawful “no-poach agreements” the grocery stores allegedly entered into during a 2022 strike against King Soopers and City Market by the union United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 in Denver. Casa Bonita’s employees are unionizing. What are they hoping to gain?

By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News Onstage and backstage workers of the oft-noted Denver restaurant Casa Bonita have voted unanimously to unionize with two unions: The Actors’ Equity Association and IATSE Local 7. The vote was publicized Friday, in an announcement that said about 80 restaurant workers had filed for an election in October to address issues that have been noticed as the iconic eatery grows. Workers specifically want improvements to safety, fair pay and clear communication with management.
