Clarence Thomas scolds SCOTUS over ‘refusal to intervene’ on free speech case

By Katelynn Richardson | Daily Caller Justice Clarence Thomas wrote Monday that the Supreme Court should not let “confusion persist” regarding students’ free speech rights on university campuses. The Supreme Court declined Monday to hear a case questioning whether “bias response teams” on university campuses chill students’ free speech rights, though Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito would have taken the case. Over 450 colleges and universities nationwide have “bias response teams” that encourage students to report incidents of bias committed by their peers to school officials, Thomas noted in a dissent. Trump to make English the nation’s official language

By Reagan Reese | Daily Caller President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order declaring English the official language of the United States, a White House official confirmed to the Daily Caller. The Wall Street Journal first reported Friday that though the nation has not had an official language Trump is planning to sign an executive order declaring one. A summary of the order, provided to the WSJ, writes that the move is in an effort to promote “unity, establish efficiency in the government and provide a pathway to civic engagement.”  The executive order is expected to rescind a federal mandate from former President Bill Clinton, which required agencies and other recipients of federal funding to provide language assistance to non-English speakers, the WSJ reported. ...

U.S. Army allowed 1,181 recruits who didn’t meet standards to train

By Wallace White | Daily Caller The U.S. Army is breaking with its own fitness standards on body fat percentage to gain more recruits, a report from the Department of Defense (DOD) Inspector General found Feb. 18. The Army Future Soldier Preparatory Course, established by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASA[M&RA]), gives recruits who do not meet base fitness standards 90 days to fall in line, and allows individuals who are as much as 8% above the required body fat percentage — 26% for men and 36% for women — to enlist. However, the DOD Investigator General found that 14% of 1,181 trainees at the Army Training Center and Fort Jackson (ATC&FJ) between February and May 2024 exceeded these expanded limits. “Aggravating the issue with the l...

Trump taps Dan Bongino for FBI deputy director

By Hailey Gomez | Daily Caller President Donald Trump announced Sunday evening that he has named former Secret Service agent and podcast host Dan Bongino as the new deputy director of the FBI, according to a social media post. Bongino, who has been an outspoken advocate for Trump and raised serious concerns following the first near-assassination of the president on July 13, was reportedly being considered for the position of U.S. Secret Service director in November 2024, according to CNN. However, late Sunday, Trump took to social media, congratulating Bongino for his “love and passion” for the U.S., noting that he will be working with newly appointed FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi. “Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has jus...

GOP lawmakers aim to restore anti-Chinese Communist Party initiative gutted under Biden

By Philip Lenczycki | Daily Caller Republican lawmakers introduced legislation on Friday to resurrect a program combatting Chinese Communist Party (CCP) espionage that was terminated by the Biden administration. If adopted, the Protect America’s Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act will establish a “CCP Initiative” in the Department of Justice’s National Security Division to “curb spying” from Beijing on U.S. “intellectual property and academic institutions,” according to the bill first obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The CCP Initiative draws heavily from a similarly-named Trump administration program called the “China Initiative,” which the Biden administration ended in February 2022 after critics claimed it “fueled a narrative of intolerance and bias,” the DC...

Federal Trade Commission launches probe into big tech’s censorship of Americans

By Amber Duke | Daily Caller The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is opening up an official request for public comments on censorship by Big Tech companies. The agency is asking Americans to detail cases where they’ve faced consequences from companies for engaging in disfavored political speech, according to a draft document obtained by the Daily Caller. Requests for public comments by the FTC are often a precursor to formal investigations or agency-level policy changes, indicating the agency, helmed by Chairman Andrew Ferguson, does not intend to allow sweeping allegations of political censorship in prior years to go unchecked. “In case there was any doubt, Big Tech is on notice. We do not intend to take our foot off the gas any time soon. The days of censorship and monopolies are ...

Tom Homan reminds AOC he once had to ‘educate her’ about basic border law as two publicly beef

By Hailey Gomez | Daily Caller Border czar Tom Homan recalled Sunday on Fox News how he had to educate Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez about the inner workings of border law after her recent public pushback telling him to “learn to read” the Constitution. In 2019, Homan stopped Ocasio-Cortez’s attack against him during a congressional hearing, where he had to inform her that border laws mirrored U.S. laws when discussing family separation. On “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo,” the Fox News host asked Homan for his response to Ocasio-Cortez, who had recently posted on X, stating Homan should “learn to read” and start with the Constitution in response to his Department of Justice (DOJ) warning.  “Look, I forgot more about the Constitution and immigratio...
