Liz Warren’s favorite agency just granted itself new powers to regulate checking accounts

By Owen Klinsky | Daily Caller The lame duck Biden administration’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued a rule in December to curb overdraft penalties in what experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation is an example of government overreach that will ravage low-income Americans. The CFPB — an agency that is considered the brainchild of Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren — finalized the rule just weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, with the aim of forcing banks to either cap overdraft fees at $5, far less than the $35 average, or to provide the overdraft as a form of credit rather than a penalty. While the policy’s stated aim is to increase transparency and protect American depositors, experts told the DCNF it will force banks to implem...

Massive dockworker strike could land in Trump Admin’s lap on day one

By Wallace White | Daily Caller A costly dockworkers’ strike could ignite just days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, presenting the Republican’s administration with a major domestic challenge on day one. The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), which represents 47,000 workers, is planning to strike on Jan. 15 after a short three-day strike in October, where the union secured a 62% pay raise over six years from United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). However, negotiations concerning port automation with shipping companies continue to stall, and industry giant Maersk said there have been no new developments, according to Bloomberg Tuesday. “The conditional agreement on wages is set to expire on January 15. If no agreement is reached by that date, a coast-...

McGreevy: Media experts predict where professional liar KJP will end up next

By Robert McGreevy | Commentary, Daily Caller With the Biden presidency weeks away from its conclusion, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will be out of a job soon, and a panel of media luminaries gave the Daily Caller their idea of what she might do next. The consensus seemed to be that KJP, despite being considered by many to have performed poorly at her White House gig, will likely find safe harbor as a contributor on a cable news program, just like her predecessor Jen Psaki.  “She’ll go where all the other failed Hollywood actors go when they’re useless to the deep state: a cable chat show that exclusively exists to sell weird books and products to lonely women,” Daily Caller alum and media veteran Kay Hill said. Biden spent one-quarter of his final year on Easy Street as he vacationed or worked remote

By Reagan Reese | Daily Caller President Joe Biden spent nearly a quarter of his final year in office, 24%, in Delaware, at Camp David or in vacation spots, a Daily Caller review of White House pool reports showed. Biden spent 89 full and partial days out of the White House in 2024, not counting days he was taking foreign trips for official business. The president’s time out of the office increased after he dropped out of the presidential race, spending a total of 46 full or partial days in Delaware, Camp David, St. Croix, Nantucket and California from August to the end of the year. The Caller’s count includes the president’s current trip to St. Croix, which the White House has not released the end date of. In 2023, the president stayed until the second of the next year. U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves will resign from his position on Jan. 16, he announced Monday. Under Graves, 1,572 defendants were charged with crimes related to their presence at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to his office. “Serving as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia has been the honor of a lifetime,” Graves said in a Monday statement. “I am deeply thankful to Congresswoman Holmes Norton for recommending me; to President Biden for nominating me; and to Attorney General Garland for placing his tru...

Trump’s Silicon Valley advisor pick pits MAGA loyalists against tech bros led by Musk, Ramaswamy

By Robert McGreevy | Daily Caller The GOP is tearing itself apart over a heated multi-day immigration debate, kicked off after President-elect Trump nominated Indian national Sriram Krishnan as a senior advisor on artificial intelligence. Trump appointed Krishnan on Dec. 22. While the tech community lauded the pick, many MAGA loyalists criticized it harshly. Chief among their complaints was Krishnan’s past advocacy to remove current country caps on skilled legal immigration. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY CALLER

Joe Biden wrapped: How Delaware’s favorite son fared during his final year in office

By Reagan Reese | Daily Caller President Joe Biden had an eventful last year in office, from losing track of his Defense Secretary to breaking one last promise and pardoning his son, all while dropping out of the presidential race and saying his final goodbye to the Oval Office. Biden’s approval rating hit an all-time low, falling to 34% just two weeks before the end of the year. Biden battled low approval ratings before dropping out of the presidential race, but still managed to fight off a special counsel report, make it to the first debate, and overshadow Vice President Kamala Harris’s closing arguments before her loss. Biden’s 2024 began with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin going MIA as he and the Pentagon forgot to notify the White House about his hospitalization for several d...

White House aides finally reveal who really ran the country as Biden slid into mental incompetence

By Reagan Reese | Daily Caller With President Joe Biden’s time in office winding down, dozens of those close to his operations over the years told The Wall Street Journal how aides insulated the 82-year-old and handled his responsibilities as concerns of his fitness increased. President-elect Donald Trump’s domination of the news cycle since winning the 2024 election has allowed Biden to fade from the national politics scene. But since the 82-year-old dropped out of the presidential race, questions about his physical state, how long the president had been declining and how it was being handled, have remained unanswered. The WSJ interviewed nearly 50 people who have been close to Biden throughout his administration and they detail how staff handled cabinet officials, presidential resp...

Rep. ‘Nostra’Thomas Massie predicted Speaker Johnson would bring Christmas spending bill, now first to say he’ll ‘vote for someone else’

By Adam Pack | Daily Caller Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie told reporters Wednesday that he will not be supporting Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s bid for another term as speaker. “I’ll vote for somebody else,” Massie told Politico on Wednesday. “I’ve got a few in mind. I’m not going to say yet.” The Kentucky Republican is a fierce critic of Johnson and has torched the speaker’s decision to partner with House Democrats on a massive spending bill right before the Christmas recess despite previously committing in September to not bringing a ‘Christmas omnibus’ to the floor.
