Congress sneaks pay raise for itself into spending bill as Americans struggle to make ends meet

by Adam Pack | Daily Caller Members of Congress are slated to receive a pay raise for the first time in 15 years if the massive spending bill released by House leaders Tuesday evening passes both chambers and is signed into law. The 1,574 page bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), contains language allowing for a cost of living adjustment (COLA), which would give members of Congress a pay raise for the first time since 2009. This pay increase for Congress comes as many lawmakers’ constituents are struggling to make ends meet as inflation has skyrocketed under President Joe Biden’s administration. Lawmakers currently earn a base salary of $174,000 annually with members in leadership receiving a higher salary. If Biden signs the CR into law, members of Congress are set to rec...

City hall meeting erupts into chaos as residents protest ‘migrant invasion,’ mayor calls in police to clear them out

By Harold Hutchison | Daily Caller Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago called police to clear out city residents after a public forum during a Monday city council meeting became chaotic when attendees protested budget changes that would allocate more funding for illegal immigrants. The Chicago city council voted to pass a budget proposed by Johnson after six weeks of negotiations only after police removed the vocal residents during a temporary recess, Fox News reported. Residents ripped city officials for seeking a $40 million loan as part of the city budget.  “He wants to pull a $40 million line of credit and put the city in even more debt,” one city resident said during a public comment period. “It’s your fault, because you gave half of the money to illegals.” READ TH...

Trump reportedly looks to privatize United States Postal Service

By Julianna Frieman | Daily Caller President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly looking to privatize the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), three people familiar with the matter told The Washington Post in a report published Sunday. Trump has made known his desire to detach the USPS from the federal government in conversations at his Mar-a-Lago estate, sources informed the outlet, including with Howard Lutnick, his commerce secretary pick and co-chair of his presidential transition team. In early December, Trump also talked with a group of transition team officials to feel out their opinions on privatizing the agency, one person told the outlet. As mail volume declines for the Postal Service, the agency has reportedly lost $9.5 billion in the fiscal year ending on Sept. 30, Th...

Rooke: Caitlin Clark could’ve been a hero, but instead she bent the knee to racist bullies

By Mary Rooke, Commentary | Daily Caller TIME Magazine nominated WNBA phenom Caitlin Clark as the Athlete of the Year for 2024. And honestly, she deserves it. Clark single-handedly revitalized the WNBA with her competitiveness and athletic ability. She was a class act during the pre-and post-game interviews and drew massive crowds to previously practically empty arenas. She accomplished all of this while being body slammed and thrown around the court like a ragdoll. Race, of course, played a part in this. It was impossible not to notice. The league is predominately made up of black female athletes. While the rest of the freshman class stars, like Angel Reese, were celebrated, Clark was bullied, beaten, and demonized because she was white. When Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wi...

Inside Team Trump’s big bet on election integrity in 2024 and how it paid off

By Reagan Reese | Daily Caller If the 2020 election taught the Republican National Committee anything, it was that in a new world of drop-boxes and ballot harvesting, they needed to rethink how they play the game. And if the 2024 election proved anything, it was that going big on election integrity and working with third-party groups to turn out votes worked. After 2020, nearly two-thirds of Republicans and Trump voters said they had little faith votes were counted accurately, according to one poll. That year, in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of election laws were changed and others were completely ignored in key swing states. Thanks to Democrat super lawyer Marc Elias, voters could use ballot drop-boxes, mail-in voting and early voting in states like Pennsylv...

Manhattan jury finds Daniel Penny not guilty in NYC subway chokehold death

By Justin Bailey | Daily Caller A Manhattan jury has found Daniel Penny not guilty on criminally negligent homicide in the death of Jordan Neely. Marine veteran Penny, 26, placed 30-year-old Neely in a chokehold after the older man began acting erratically on a New York City subway, according to law enforcement. Witnesses said Neely, a homeless man, was yelling and acting erratically on the F train after boarding, adding that they felt threatened by his behavior. Prosecutors said Penny held Neely in a chokehold for approximately six minutes. The more serious charge of second-degree manslaughter was dismissed last week after the jury was hung. U.S., Israel conduct dozens of strikes, hit more than 75 targets in wake of Syria’s regime collapse

By John Oyewale | Daily Caller The U.S. and Israel conducted dozens of airstrikes Sunday on targets in Syria following the dramatic collapse of the ruling Assad regime and amid concerns radical and terrorist groups could exploit Syria’s current situation. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it hit over 75 “known [Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham] ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria” using precision airstrikes. CENTCOM added that it struck the targets to “disrupt, degrade, and defeat ISIS” and render it incapable of exploiting the nation’s current state to regroup in central Syria. There was no indication of civilian deaths from the strikes, CENTCOM noted. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY CALLER

SCOTUS conservatives seem ready to uphold child sex change bans

By Katelynn Richardson | Daily Caller Every conservative justice expressed skepticism Wednesday of the Biden administration’s challenge to state ban on child sex changes, except Justice Neil Gorsuch. Gorsuch, who authored a landmark ruling in 2020 expanding sex discrimination to include gender identity and sexual orientation in the context of employment, didn’t say a word during over two hours of oral arguments. Tennessee’s law, which is at the center of the United States v. Skrmetti case, restricts minors from receiving medical treatments intended to help them live as an identity “inconsistent” with their sex. The Biden administration argues it draws sex-based lines on medical treatments in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. READ THE FULL STORY ON TH...

UCLA’s blueprint to increase diversity and sidestep SCOTUS ruling could make it ‘prime target’ for Trump DOJ

By Jaryn Crouson | Daily Caller The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has laid the groundwork for schools to skirt the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that banned affirmative action admission policies. While several universities saw a rise in Asian enrollment and a decrease in black and Latino enrollment following the Supreme Court’s landmark 2023 ruling that banned the use of race as a factor in college admission decisions, UCLA saw an unprecedented rise in “diversity.” The university has openly boasted of its method of outreach toward nonwhite students and change in the admissions process that allows the school to reach its desired ratio of students. “[T]here is abundant evidence that, since 2007, UCLA’s undergraduate admissions office has been using significant racial pr...

Big tech companies ‘concerned’ after Australia bans social media for kids

By Julianna Frieman | Daily Caller Australia passed a law Thursday banning children younger than 16 from using social media, worrying some Big Tech companies. The Social Media Minimum Age bill requires social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and X, to prevent users below the age of 16 from accessing the websites or face fines, Reuters reported. Violations could cost Big Tech companies up to $32 million in penalties, according to the outlet. Australia’s social media ban for minors takes effect in one year.
