By Jason Blevins | The Colorado Sun Voters in Steamboat Springs on Tuesday will decide on the city’s plan to annex 420 acres to build a community of affordable housing for more than 6,000 workers.  The Brown Ranch plan illustrates the challenges with building affordable housing in Colorado’s high country as communities grapple with the scope and cost of building homes for workers who cannot afford living in mountain towns. The vote in Steamboat Springs will decide if the city of 13,000 can move forward on a plan to spend hundreds of millions on a new community that could grow the city’s population by nearly half.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE COLORADO SUN

Republican state chair Dave Williams wins top-line in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District primary

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Dave Williams, the chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, won top-line designation Saturday in the GOP's 5th Congressional District primary amid complaints the former state lawmaker has used party resources to promote his campaign and bash a primary opponent. Williams will face at least one other candidate in the June 25 primary for the seat held by retiring U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, the Colorado Springs Republican who announced at the beginning of the year that he wouldn't seek a ninth term representing the heavily Republican district. Republican Jeff Crank, a podcaster and executive with the Koch network's Americans for Prosperity, qualified for the primary ballot by petition this week, while state Sen. Bob Gardner, R-Colorado Spr...

By Casey Harper | The Center Square (The Center Square) – Republican voters have suggestions for former President Donald Trump when he considers his running mate for vice president. The Center Square Voter’s Voice poll released this week asked voters this question: “Who should Donald Trump choose as his vice presidential candidate?” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis narrowly edged out the other potential candidates. DeSantis was once seen as a serious threat to Trump for the presidential nomination, but after Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate was raided by the FBI, Trump’s poll numbers soared. DeSantis was left behind in the polling and never recovered. Now, according to the survey, 18% of Republicans want DeSantis to be Trump’s vice presidential running mate. Republicans Russ Andrews, Joe Granado, Jeff Hurd, Curtis McCrackin and Lew Webb have all submitted petitions in the 3rd District, an open seat with the absence of Rep. Lauren Boebert. Th...

Sen. Joe Manchin rethinking retirement is ‘long-shot scenario’, he says

By ALEXANDER BOLTON | The Hill West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) said in a new interview that he’s still planning on retiring despite Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) reported entreaties that he reconsider his decision not to run for reelection. “I think that’s a long, long, long-shot scenario,” Manchin told CNN’s Manu Raju. “So I don’t anticipate that happening. “I don’t anticipate running.” Manchin announced in early November that he would retire from the Senate and last month ruled out the possibility of launching a third-party bid for president. Biden pushing to erase voter ID requirements that are backed by 85% of voters

By The Washington Times Staff Recent comments from Biden administration officials have stirred a debate about the role of federal agencies in supporting citizen participation in elections and the validity of voter ID laws. Concerns have been raised by House Republicans over a lack of transparency regarding the implementation of an executive order by President Biden aimed at encouraging federal agencies to assist in voter registration efforts. This is in addition to statements made by Attorney General Merrick Garland questioning the effectiveness of voter ID laws. Rep. Claudia Tenney, New York Republican and co-chairwoman of the Election Integrity Caucus, disputes claims that voter ID laws disenfranchise voters. “The statistics don’t bear that out. It’s like 85% of people across al...
