Differences within ranks of Colorado GOP not necessarily weakness, Gabe Evans says

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice As the two factions of the Colorado Republican Central Committee engage in a power struggle, it should viewed as a point of strength and not weakness, 8th District congressional nominee Gabe Evans said Tuesday in a press conference. "It is one of the things I've always been proud of with the Republican party," Evans said. "We respect individual opinions. We respect individual liberties. That means people won't always agree." It doesn't mean the party is without unity, he says. Members of the party are unified toward policy. "What we agree on across party lines is progressive Democrats have made a mess of Colorado," Evans said. "It's time to fix these issues." Republican solutions to issues he identifies as of primary importance, Evans s...

Libertarian Joss withdraws from 8th District race, endorses Evans in bid to unseat Caraveo

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice In a race which could be decided by a paper-thin margin, 8th District U.S. House Republican nominee Gabe Evans may have just drawn the most valuable endorsement. Eric Joss, the Libertarian Party's nominee for the 8th District, has announced his decision to withdraw and offer his support to Evans. It could be a 2% or better swing in the race. "Leadership means you listen to your constituents and come to a consensus on common things," Joss said. "A few weeks ago we were far apart on some common issues, and now we're a whole lot closer." Evans has signed what was described as Liberty Pledge 2.0, agreeing to support many liberty issues, if elected to Congress. "One of the big sticking points [previously] was we had to agree to abolish the i...

Evans tours southern border near El Paso, criticizes that Caraveo has not

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Gabe Evans, the Republican nominee for the 8th District seat in the U.S. House, visited the southern border near El Paso on Thursday. “The open-border policies of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Yadira Caraveo have had dire results: more deaths, a record number of individuals on the terrorist watch list crossing into the U.S., and record levels of poisonous fentanyl released into the U.S.," Evans said. "In 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded an astonishing 2.5 million border crossings, plus an unknown additional number of got-aways." He reports 375 individuals on the terrorist watch list have been apprehended crossing into the U.S., and 99 have been released into the U.S., as of July. Evans is vying to unseat Democrat Caraveo in...

Evans accepts four debates in 8th District U.S. House race, asks Caraveo to do the same

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Gabe Evans has accepted four debate invitations in Colorado's 8th District race for the U.S. House. The Republican has agreed to appear in debates presented by CBS, 9News, Fox31, and Colorado Politics. “Two years ago, [8th District] voters only got to observe one, 30-minute debate in the race for Congress. Voters deserve better,” Evans said in a statement. “There are tremendous differences between [Democrat] Yadira Caraveo and me on crime, the border, jobs and the cost of living. As candidates for Congress, we owe it to the voters to articulate and explain our positions on these and other important issues." Evans served 12 years in the U.S. Army and Colorado Army National Guard as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot and company commander. He dep...

In bid to claim 8th District, Speaker Mike Johnson to headline fundraiser for Gabe Evans in Loveland

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana is scheduled to appear at a high-dollar fundraiser for Colorado congressional candidate Gabe Evans on Friday morning in Loveland, according to an invitation obtained by Colorado Politics. Evans, a first-term state lawmaker from Fort Lupton, is the Republican challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the toss-up 8th Congressional District, which stretches from Adams County suburbs north of Denver to Greeley. Caraveo, a former state lawmaker from Thornton, won the newly created seat in the last election by one of the smallest margins of any U.S. House race in the country. Tickets to the fundraising breakfast with Johnson start at $500 and top out at $10,000, which includes two seats...

House GOP campaign arm names Colorado’s Jeff Hurd, Gabe Evans to ‘Young Guns’ program

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Monday that the Republican nominees in Colorado's most competitive congressional races were named to the House GOP campaign arm's Young Guns program for top challengers in targeted seats. First-time candidate Jeff Hurd and state Rep. Gabe Evans, R-Fort Lupton, are among 26 Republican House candidates inducted into the top tier of the campaign support program, which helps candidates who have met fundraising and organizational goals, the NRCC said. Hurd, a Grand Junction attorney, is facing Democrat Adam Frisch in the 3rd Congressional District, which covers most of the Western Slope and Southern Colorado, and Evans is running against first-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the N...

Independence Day: Some cite Reagan, Trump, but Gardner goes way back to Adams in Twitter greetings

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice While Coloradans were enjoying parades, rodeos and cookouts in celebration Thursday of Independence Day, elected Republican officials past, present and possibly future turned to Twitter. For those not binge-watching Yellowstone re-runs, Twitter was filled with their personal thoughts and quotations, as could be expected, by Presidents Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, and unexpectedly by novelist William Faulkner. The occasion drew former U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner to get more creative, citing the country's co-drafter of the Declaration of Independence, the first vice president, first occupant of the White House and the country's only Federalist president: John Adams. Gardner encouraged Coloradans and Americans to, as Adams had said in 1776, "Ce...

Democrat Yadira Caraveo hauls in nearly $1.8M for quarter in Colorado’s toss-up 8th CD

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo plans to report raising nearly $1.8 million in the most recent fundraising quarter in a bid to defend Colorado's battleground 8th Congressional District, her campaign told Colorado Politics. The first-term lawmaker heads into the general election with an eye-popping $3.3 million in the bank for a race that could determine which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives once ballots are counted in November. A spokesman for Caraveo's campaign said she raised more than $1,769,000 for the three-month period from April 1 to June 30, including more than $1.2 million in receipts since the pre-primary reporting period ended on June 5. The quarterly figure pushes Caraveo's total fundraising this cycle...

Evans to Weld Women: ‘We can win the 8th District and retire Caraveo’

By Brian Porter | Rocky Mountain Voice HUDSON -- Gabe Evans isn't resting on a 55-point Republican Party primary election victory. The 8th District Republican nominee for U.S. representative told the Women of Weld County here Thursday he can defeat Yadira Caraveo on the issues, each and every one of them. "Open borders, American oil and gas production, agriculture, really every pressing issue right now, she has been on the wrong side of it," Evans said. "It is time to retire her." His Christmas in June began when 8th District Republicans handed him a 55.1% margin of victory over Janak Joshi on Tuesday. On Thursday, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced it would invest $2.327 million in Colorado's 8th District race, marking its third-highest investment...

NRCC will invest $2.327 million in 8th District ad buy to support Evans

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice How much ad space will $2.327 million buy in the Denver market? If you reside in or near the 8th District, you are about to find out. The National Republican Congressional Committee, fresh off Gabe Evans 55-point win in the primary election, announced Thursday the reinforcements are coming in an effort to prevent Democrat Yadira Caraveo's re-election. The $2.327 million is third, falling behind NRCC investments of $2.5 million in Los Angeles, Calif., and $6/06 million in Portland, Ore. "In 2023, the NRCC set a goal to expand the House Republican Majority by recruiting top tiercandidates in Democrat-held seats, while at the same time shoring up our most vulnerable members," NRCC Independent Expenditure Director Tom Erickson wrote in a press...
