New Douglas County ordinance prohibits unscheduled immigrant bus drop-offs

By Nicole C. Brambila | Colorado Politics Douglas County commissioners unanimously voted to approve an ordinance this week that takes aim at Colorado’s “sanctuary” laws by prohibiting commercial vehicles from making unscheduled stops in unincorporated Douglas County to drop off immigrants. The new ordinance simultaneously targets so-called “sanctuary” cities and efforts lawmakers around the country have made to offload immigrants elsewhere. This includes political stunts targeting Democrats — as seen with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s busing campaign — or an onward travel strategy employed by Denver Mayor Mike Johnston and others that transports immigrants onto their final destination. Commercial drivers who violate the new ordinance could face a fine of up to $1,000 per passenger, in ...

Denver official caught telling illegal immigrants to leave, go somewhere else

By Matt Vespa | Townhall Denver is a sanctuary city. It’s a haven for these people, thanks to a Democrat-led effort that’s enticed tens of millions to cross into the country illegally. It’s part of the Democrats’ plan to increase their clout on Capitol Hill: flood the country with illegals, increase the population, generate new congressional districts, and select candidates of similar ethnic and racial backgrounds. We all know the end game here. The costs of this massive influx of illegals were not considered.  Denver’s hospital system is on the verge of collapse, which explains why the mayor’s political director was reportedly caught telling illegal aliens to leave the city for the Big Apple. Denver has a ‘Newcomer Director’ and a continuing illegal immigration crisis

By Bennito L. Kelty | Westword In December 2022, the City of Denver declared an emergency after the arrival of thousands of migrants from the southern border. Since then, nearly 40,000 of them have come to the city. The response has cost Denver $61 million so far and could cost another $120 million in 2024, according to city estimates, but Mayor Mike Johnston believes his new director of Denver's Newcomer Program will steer the city toward a more sustainable path.  Now a month into her role, Sarah Plastino's duties include compassion to migrants while shifting the city's strategy from emergency response to a long-term plan. An immigration defense lawyer, Plastino told a small group of reporters during an interview on Wednesday, March 20, that this is "a refugee cris...

Federal Court Rules Firearm Restrictions on Defendants Awaiting Trial Are Constitutional

By By Patricia Tolson | Epoch Times A federal court has ruled it is constitutional to block a defendant’s 2nd Amendment rights while they are awaiting trial. On March 18, the three-judge panel in the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that the restriction on the rights of Jesus Perez-Garcia and John Thomas Fencl to bear firearms is constitutional because it is consistent with historic legal precedent. While these are two separate cases, with Judge Gonzalo Paul Curiel ruling on Mr. Perez-Garcia’s case on Dec. 2, 2022, and Judge Janis Lynn Sammartino ruling on Mr. Fencl’s case on Dec. 7, 2022, both men brought their legal challenge before the federal appeals court on Jan. 26, 2023. Douglas County aims to challenge Colorado’s sanctuary laws amid illegal immigration surge in Denver

By Kyla Pearce | Colorado Politics Douglas County's commissioners are eyeing a legal challenge to Colorado's "sanctuary" laws amid a surge in illegal immigration that has already cost Denver — the epicenter of the crisis — tens of millions of dollars.  They also advanced a proposed ordinance that bars commercial buses from unloading passengers "other than at a planned and scheduled documented destination," a clear attempt to stop immigrants from arriving at the county's doors unannounced.   In a resolution, the commissioners on Tuesday directed the county attorney to "pursue legal action to permit the county to fully cooperate with federal law enforcement." Fake identity documents being sold to illegals in Colorado desperate to find work, CBS News investigation finds

By Kati Weis | CBS News Colorado The Investigators with CBS News Colorado have uncovered a scheme that's taking advantage of migrants in Denver, and potentially causing innocent Americans to fall victim to identity theft, all while city, state, and federal government agencies miss out on income tax revenue.  Criminals are printing and selling fake identification documents – like social security and permanent resident cards – to migrants who are desperate for documentation, so they are able to find work.  Nearly 40,000 migrants from South and Central America have crossed rivers and jungles to come to Denver in recent months, seeking better lives. Many of those migrants told CBS News Colorado they felt they had no other choice but to buy the fake documents, because otherwise, t...

Biden’s border in crisis: Records set with 3.2M illegal immigrants, 169 terrorism suspects

By Stephen Dinan | The Washington Times The Biden administration just tallied the worst year in border security history, according to the Department of Homeland Security’s final numbers for fiscal 2023, which showed record numbers of illegal immigrants, terrorism suspects and fentanyl detected. Customs and Border Protection delivered the numbers in a highly unusual Saturday morning news release. Border Patrol agents detected 2.1 million illegal immigrants, which was down slightly from 2020, when it reported 2.2 million. But the real action was at official ports of entry — land border crossings and, increasingly, airports, where officers encountered 1.1 million unauthorized migrants. John Fabbricatore Considering Run for CD-4 Special Election

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff AURORA, CO – In a statement released today, John Fabbricatore, a seasoned professional with decades of service in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including during the Trump administration, announced that he's considering a run for the upcoming special election in Colorado's 4th Congressional District. Expressing deep concern over what he perceives as a breakdown in immigration enforcement and disregard for the rule of law under the current administration, Fabbricatore emphasized the urgency of addressing the border crisis and its impact on national security and community safety. "After the sudden opening in the 4th District, I've been humbled by the overwhelming support and encouragement from fellow Coloradans," Fabbricatore stated. "M...

Residents want Weld County to declare it is non-sanctuary for illegal immigrants

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice GREELEY – There was a time, Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams recalls, when local law enforcement in Colorado had the capacity to better work with federal immigration officers. It all ended when Gov. Jared Polis signed Democrat-supported House Bill 1124 into law in 2019. “What this law said was I cannot work with ICE,” Reams told those gathered Wednesday for a town hall meeting here at the Weld County administration offices. A summary of HB 19-1124 indicates it prohibits “a law enforcement officer from arresting or detaining an individual solely on the basis of a civil immigration detainer.” At issue for many in Weld County is whether or not the county is a sanctuary to illegal immigrants, regardless of whether the state has become on...
