By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice A town hall meeting to discuss Weld County’s sanctuary status and fiscal responsibility has been called for Wednesday, March 13, a press release from “We, the concerned citizens of Weld County” reads. The email with the press release received by The Rocky Mountain Voice indicates all Weld County commissioners have been invited, along with House District 48 Rep. Gabe Evans.  “This gathering aims to discuss and reinforce our collective commitment to ensuring Weld County remains a non-sanctuary county and that taxpayer funds are not used in any capacity related to this matter,” the release reads. Denver to close four shelters for illegal immigrants, starting with Aurora

Since December 2022, more than 39,000 migrants, mostly from Venezuela, have shown up in Denver. To the tune of $58 million — all funded by local taxes — the City of Denver has either put them in hotels converted to shelters or bused them to other locations. For Denver to keep housing, transporting and feeding migrants through 2024, Johnston had predicted the city would need $180 million. Aurora to local governments, nonprofits: Don’t bring immigrants in without coordinating

By Kyla Pearce | Denver Gazette The Aurora council approved a resolution on Monday night telling other local governments or nonprofits entities to not bring immigrants — who ended up in metro Denver after illegally crossing America's southern border — into Colorado's third most populous city. The vote followed disagreement among councilmembers and criticism from some residents who attended the meeting. The resolution's sponsors later made changes in response to feedback from nonprofits and community members.  As amended, the resolution affirms Aurora's "non-sanctuary" status, asserting that the city "does not currently have the financial capacity to fund new services related to this crisis." By Taylor Cramer  | Post Independent In a unanimous decision on Tuesday, Garfield County Commissioners denied the town of Carbondale’s request for $50,000 in aid to support groups of recently arrived immigrants who have been relying on the town for temporary shelter since November.  Approximately 150 immigrants, mostly Venezuelans, arrived in Carbondale seeking shelter and employment. These newcomers, discovered living under the Carbondale entrance bridge and in various precarious situations on Nov. 4, were part of a larger group migration in search for stability in the face of economic and legal uncertainties.
