Supreme Court Weighs Election Day Deadline For Mail In Ballots

By Andrew Rice | Just the News (The Center Square) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday will hear arguments in a consequential case to determine at what point states can accept and count mail-in ballots. The case, Watson v. RNC, challenges a Mississippi law that allows mail-in ballots to be received up to five days after Election Day, as long as the ballot is postmarked by Election Day. Fourteen states and the District of Columbia also allow mail-in ballots to be received after Election Day. Jason Snead, executive director of the Honest Elections Project, said the case would give an opportunity for mail-in ballot laws to be uniform across the country. “Federal law clearly states that ballots must be received by Election Day,” Snead told The Center Square. “Despite...

Justices To Decide If States Can Count Ballots After Election Day

By Shawn Fleetwood | The Federalist Does Election Day actually mean Election Day? That’s the key issue the U.S. Supreme Court is going to consider when it holds oral arguments in a pivotal elections case next week. Known as Watson v. RNC, the legal dispute centers around a challenge to a Mississippi law allowing election officials to accept mail-in ballots up to five business days after Election Day so long as they are postmarked on or before the day of the contest. The issue of accepting late-arriving ballots has become a prominent issue in elections in recent years, with more than a dozen states permitting such a practice. In the case before SCOTUS, the justices will decide whether these state statutes violate existing f...

Before he was a congressional candidate, Manny Rutinel was calling animal agriculture “horrific”

By Jen Schumann | Rocky Mountain Voice Manny Rutinel spent the better part of six years calling animal agriculture a "horrific, exploitive industry." Rutinel entered the legislature through an appointment in 2023 when Rep. Dafna Michaelson Jenet resigned from the District 32 seat. Less than two years later, he was filing paperwork for Congress. He's the money leader in a Democratic primary that national strategists are watching closely. Federal Election Commission filings put him at $2.5 million raised—almost as much as Republican incumbent Rep. Gabe Evans. Cook Political Report has it as a toss-up. The seat flipped once already—it could flip again, and the House majority may well come down to it. Evans runs cattle on the side. Has for years. Back at the...

RNC chair Whatley joins 2026 Senate race in North Carolina as Republicans with Trump’s endorsement

By Dasha Burns | Politico The president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, chose not to seek the seat. Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley will run for Senate in North Carolina and will have the blessing of President Donald Trump after his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, opted not to seek the seat, two people familiar with the decision told POLITICO. Whatley’s entry into the race sets up the prospect of a highly-competitive and well-funded election in a state where Democrats believe they have one of their best chances of picking up a Senate seat. The president, the two people said, believes Whatley is well-positioned to take on former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, who is expected to announce his candidacy to replace the retiring Sen. Thom Tillis. Lara Trump, who t...

Here’s how JD Vance’s new RNC role puts him in pole position for 2028

By Nick Pope | Daily Caller Vice President J.D. Vance is taking over as the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) finance chair, a new role that GOP strategists and pundits say bolsters his position as the clear frontrunner to represent the party as its nominee in the 2028 presidential race. In his new role, Vance — the first sitting vice president to take on the RNC campaign finance chair job — will be one of the top fundraisers in the country for the party and play a pivotal role in directing its course in the 2026 midterms and beyond. The position will grant Vance access to major GOP donors from all over the country and an ability to build rapport with them, cementing his status as the obvious leader for the GOP nomination in 2028 over potential opponents who will not have the sam...

Georgia absentee ballot ruling provides legal victory for RNC on eve of election

By Emma Colton | Fox News The Georgia Supreme Court ruled Monday that absentee ballots that were mailed late to voters in Cobb County will only be counted if they arrive back to election officials by Election Day, sparking GOP leadership to take a victory lap.  "HUGE election integrity victory in Georgia. Democrat-run Cobb County wanted to accept 3,000 absentee ballots AFTER the Election Day deadline. We took this case to the Georgia Supreme Court," RNC chair Michael Whatley posted to X on Monday.  "We just got word that we WON the case. Election Day is Election Day – not the week after. We will keep fighting, keep winning, and keep sharing updates," he added.  READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX NEWS

‘Not the same RNC,’ Nikki Haley backtracks on party’s loyalty pledge to nominee

By Todd C. Frankel | The Washington Post Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley said Sunday that she no longer feels bound by the earlier pledge made by her and other presidential hopefuls to support the GOP’s eventual nominee — widely expected to be former president Donald Trump. The Republican National Committee made that pledge a key condition for candidates who wanted to participate in the party’s debates. Haley acknowledged in an interview on NBC’s “Meet The Press” that the pledge was a requirement but added that the party has changed since then. “The RNC is now not the same RNC,” she said. Amid calls for change at RNC, chief of staff announces departure ahead of ’24 election

By Julia Johnson | The Gazette The Republican National Committee's chief of staff will be stepping down from his role months ahead of the 2024 presidential election. RNC chief of staff Mike Reed told employees in an email Tuesday, "I write today to let you know that this month will be my last at the RNC." Reed — who noted he spent two decades "working almost exclusively on Republican campaigns, including four years working right alongside President Trump's White House and campaign team" — stated he is leaving the RNC to work in the private sector. He cited several personal reasons for his departure, including his "growing family." "In the chaotic world of D.C. and the RNC, Mike Reed has been a calm and steady hand as our chief of staff," RNC Chairwoman ...
