By Maddie Biertempfel | Fox 31 News The Supreme Court heard its first arguments of the new term Tuesday.  In a case about whether gun-making kits can be regulated the same as traditional guns, Supreme Court justices turned to questions about omelets and meal kits.  “I put out on a counter some eggs, some chopped up ham, some chopped up pepper and onions. By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News It’s time to keep an eye on your mailbox ahead of the Nov. 5 general election, as the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office announced that mail ballots will be sent to voters in the next week or two. Specifically, the ballots will be mailed beginning Oct. 11 through Oct. 18. That means the ballots will arrive about 15 to 20 days before the election. Overseas and military voters’ ballots were sent out by Sept. 21. So, with just over four weeks left until Election Day on Nov. 5, what are the nuts and bolts of the general election that voters should know? Today was a holiday for some Coloradans, but others ask just what is Cabrini Day?

By Maddie Rhodes | Fox 31 News Four years ago, Colorado changed state law to replace the second Monday of October from formerly Columbus Day to Frances Xavier Cabrini Day. While this is now a holiday in Colorado, many people don’t get Monday off. The holiday is based on Mother Cabrini, who moved from Italy to New York in the late 1880s. Cabrini was a “humanitarian champion of immigrants and children,” according to House Bill 20-1031, “Replace Columbus Day With New State Holiday.” In the early 1900s, Cabrini moved to Colorado and opened the Queen of Heaven Orphanage for girls in north Denver. She also founded a summer camp for the Queen of Heaven orphans in Mount Vernon Canyon, known for the “miracle of the mountains,” where Cabrini was credited for finding water on the land. ...

It leaves low-income tenants facing protracted eviction battles, scrambling to pay a two-fold rent increase or more, or shunted back into a housing market where costs can easily eat half a paycheck. One thing that you may have heard of is the “National Do Not Call Registry,” which is an opt-in list created and run by the federal government. Registered telemarketers are legally not allowed to contact anyone on this list for sales purposes, and can face heavy fines for ignoring it. There is one notable exception: Political calls and texts. This means that campaigns or affiliated groups can contact people through calls or texts regardless of whether they consented to it, according to the Federal Communications Commission. 21-year-old arrested for shooting into crowd of late-night auto-enthusiasts in Greeley

By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News A 21-year-old man was arrested after reportedly shooting into a crowd of nearly 60 people in Greeley in the early morning hours Monday. Police said no one was hit by the gunfire, but one person is now under arrest. According to the Greeley Police Department, officers patrolled 36th Avenue and 10th Street at about 12:11 a.m. to ensure a group of auto enthusiasts kept the large gathering safe and legal. By Maddie Rhodes | Fox 31 News For 25 years, a local woman has taken U.S. 285 to Guanella Pass to see the fall leaves, but this year, she said conditions are worse than they’ve ever been. Heather Vigil, a fourth-generation Coloradan, lives in the Fort Logan neighborhood in Denver. Vigil said that for years during the fall, she and her husband would take U.S. 285 to the mountains for autumn picnics and to enjoy the fall colors. They usually take the trip multiple times a year, however, this year’s drive was much different. Chris Schroll lives in Parker and was impacted. His service is back but he received an email from BAM Broadband that said in part: “We have been given more information from our upstream carrier regarding the damage and we wanted to share this with you. It has been reported that the cause of the outage was vandalism.
