TABOR refund amounts announced for 2025, based on income

By Heather Willard | FOX31 Just days after announcing there would be TABOR refunds for Colorado residents in 2025, the state has announced how much money each Coloradan household can expect to receive. TABOR, or the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, is an amendment to the state constitution that limits how much revenue Colorado governments can retain and requires that Colorado residents vote to approve any tax increases. The overages are refunded to Colorado taxpayers. In an audit released on Oct. 14, the Colorado Office of the State Auditor said the state has $1.4 billion in excess revenue, which translates into TABOR refunds. By Maddie Rhodes, Travis Michels | Fox 31 News Denver will see some rain this weekend, but in other parts of the state, the Pinpoint Weather team is tracking a storm that could turn into a few inches of snow. In the city, temperatures will be seasonal, with highs in the 50s and 60s and lows in the 30s and 40s. While there will be some clouds and rain in the metro, there’s no snow in the forecast as temperatures will be above freezing all weekend. According to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, state law requires drop boxes to be kept under 24-hour video surveillance, and Douglas County has decided to add another layer of transparency during the 2024 election. A rare comet has been spotted in Colorado. Here’s how to see it before it is gone for 80,000 years.

By Maddie Rhodes | Fox 31 News On Sunday night, people across Colorado spotted a rare comet that only comes every 80,000 years. Luckily, there’s still time to see it. According to NASA, the comet was discovered in 2023 at China’s Tsuchinshan Observatory and on an ATLAS telescope in South Africa, eventually getting the name Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. While the comet was first documented last year, it is believed to be very old. NASA said it came from the Oort Cloud, which lies beyond Pluto. Every registered voter in the state will receive a ballot in the mail, regardless if the voter chooses to mail in their ballot, return it to a drop box or vote in person on Election Day on Nov. 5. Starting on Friday, county clerks across the state are mailing out ballots through Oct. 18, and they are expected to arrive in voter mailboxes 15 to 20 days before the election. While this is now a holiday in Colorado, many people don’t get Monday off. The holiday is based on Mother Cabrini, who moved from Italy to New York in the late 1880s. Cabrini was a “humanitarian champion of immigrants and children,” according to House Bill 20-1031, “Replace Columbus Day With New State Holiday.” In the early 1900s, Cabrini moved to Colorado and opened the Queen of Heaven Orphanage for girls in north Denver. She also founded a summer camp for the Queen of Heaven orphans in Mount Vernon Canyon, known for the “miracle of the mountains,” where Cabrini was credited for finding water on the land. ...

One thing that you may have heard of is the “National Do Not Call Registry,” which is an opt-in list created and run by the federal government. Registered telemarketers are legally not allowed to contact anyone on this list for sales purposes, and can face heavy fines for ignoring it. There is one notable exception: Political calls and texts. This means that campaigns or affiliated groups can contact people through calls or texts regardless of whether they consented to it, according to the Federal Communications Commission.
