Western Slope school district cancels class because of potential school safety concerns

By Morgan Whitley, Lanie Lee Cook | Fox 31 News A school district in Colorado’s high country canceled class on Wednesday due to “school safety concerns,” later announcing that the district would cancel class for the rest of the school week. Just after midnight on Wednesday, the Lake County School District that serves Leadville, Twin Lakes and surrounding areas sent a letter to families that school would not be held. The district said the cancellation comes on the advice and collaboration with Sheriff Heath Speckman after school safety concerns emerged midday Tuesday and lasted through the night and early morning Wednesday. Earlier this year, someone bought a Powerball Double Play ticket at the King Soopers at 8031 Wadsworth Blvd. in Arvada for the drawing on March 23. The ticket was worth $500,000, but almost six months later, no one has claimed it. Man cited by Denver police for posting illegal signs in March near Colorado Capitol

By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News The Denver Police Department has cited a 56-year-old man for posting anti-migrant signs near the Colorado Capitol in late March. The agency said Monday that Christopher Balli was cited on a municipal code violation on Thursday for illegally posting on public or private property, as the signs were attached to city street sign poles on March 22. However, Balli is not facing hate crime charges at this time. The signs were bolted to the same posts as the city’s metal street signs and made to look like a normal street sign. However, the signs featured the words hookers, migrants and undocumented.

While it may look mysterious, the odd shaped white-clear orb in the sky isn’t a mystery – it’s a piece of technology similar to a weather balloon. On Friday morning, FOX31 viewers reported a strange balloon in Johnstown. Around 7:20 a.m., SkyFOX tracked it down in Longmont. Here’s a close-up of the balloon, taken from a FOX31 viewer’s telescope: According to World View Enterprises, a space exploration and technology company, the balloon is one of their Stratollite balloons, which is similar to a weather balloon.
